Recently, a strong wind broke one of our old telephone poles at HVRM right at the base, with the electric line holding the pole upright. A replacement was needed and we found one nearby along the right of way of the old Chesapeake & Ohio of Indiana line. Although the pole now supports an electric line that provides power to various museum buildings and in particular, our motor car shed, it WAS a former railroad telegraph/telephone pole! Here are photos of Museum President Cory Bennett putting the line onto a couple of genuine railroad insulators and also a photo of the pole as it now sits in place. A genuine C&O artifact. BTW, the pole is still in excellent condition!

The Kelly Park Trolley in San Jose CA runs through an "old town" collection of buildings, and the "main street" has open-wire telephone lines on crossarms with glass insulators below the power circuits. The wires are in service providing telephone connections to some of the buildings.
