I am glad to see the sweeper going to a home that is going to restore it, wing plows and all that will be a sight to see running....

And I hope that the sweeper parts will find a good use in PTM. Are they actively working on another C-12x restoration?

I hope pictures will be posted when C-127 is moved.

That's good to hear, they also have a crane car, a line car, and believe it or not a coal trolley - sort of a hopper car with an operator's cab. They should have a pretty nice MOW/work car collection when they are done.

PTM is not working on a PTC sweeper. We have two Pgh. Rys. single truck sweepers and Red Arrow #4 double truck. We think that's enough sweepers.

We salvaged the GE 80 motors from the broom drives in C126. Along with two others from another scrapped PTC sweeper we are considering those as power for parlor car "Toledo" acquired from the Cleveland collection. Same for the compressor from C126.

I understand now that the car I thought was perhaps a single truck body, was in fact a sectioned piece of West Penn 539. I guess there was no interest in another massive project car among the PA folks.

Of course not every private collection is in a state of disrepair or outright abandonment, and some are even well financed, indoors, and going to stick around a while. The Sugarcreek, OH site, Ishpeming, MI, collection, and the Sanfilippo estate come to mind.

There are also moribund railroad museums (or forgotten equipment within an otherwise healthy museum) to be found, however to speak prematurely of their demise may be not very nice. Necessary, perhaps, but not nice, so tread carefully.

There was certainly no interest in West Penn 539 by the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. We already have 3 wood box motors, two to be restored and the Iowa 100 that came with the parlor car "Toledo" from the Trolleyville collection as a parts source. This car will be scrapped in the near future, as removal of the parts that we want will most likely cause the termites that are holding hands to keep the body together to evacuate. And it is in better condition than 539!

Ed had alot of things in the building other than rail stuff, there are old cars,bicycles
a fire truck, and "other things".
He was a big supporter of the Fayette Central RR in Uniontown Pa., he rode the
train every day we ran as a paying customer, He will be missed.

One last comment on "West Penn 539." What existed (past tense, it's since been burned for what little steel was in it) was two portions of the body with what would have been the center door area completely missing. There had been extensive mods to what did remain, and any thought of trying to make this back to a complete car would come with a really big cost estimate. PTM salvaged a few small door and window fittings, but every other bit of hardware was long gone and much of the wood was badly rotted. Even that effort was a bit dicey, as one cab of the car had been virtually filled with poison ivy vines! Not every "chicken coop" out there is worth the effort required to make it functional again.

Latest developments:

Ex-PRCo/PAT PCCs 1737 and 1745 were scrapped 7/7/11.

Ex-PAT PCCs 4003 and 4010 were scrapped 7/8/11

PTM was able to salvage some MG sets and control parts.

Ex-PRCo/PAT PCC 1661 will be scrapped this week.

I was past ed's place in uniontown today and see that C-127 has been loaded for it's move to a new home,I also see that they are moving other things out of the building

With the departure of PTC C127 the only trolleys left are PRCo PCC 1661 and the deteriorated body of West Penn center door car 728. Scrapping of the PCC has been delayed while the scrapper has more rewarding work elsewhere. The Estate has not yet decided on the future of 728. Pennsylvania Trolley Museum has limited salvage rights to the PCC and will remove certain electrical parts while the car is being scrapped.

We have seen over the recent decade, several trolley car bodies preserved as static displays at regional history museums. Perhaps this is an option for the West Penn center entrance car?

The West Penn car would take a lot of restoration before it could become even a static display. In addition, shelter would be needed for a 58 foot long car.
