From reading progress reports on the engines I understand that items may be sold soon to help fund the renovation costs- ie heralds, numberboards/plates etc. Can someone please post when further information is available?

A photo of yesterday's progress. Continued masking of the flanks, plus the white letters covering the maroon. Later in the day they painted the black on the lower body.

Locomotive no. 57 is still being sanded and prepared for paint in the roundhouse.

Are those reversed vinyl masks or vinyl letters straight?

They are vinyl "paint mask" material. The photo shows it being pulled off for the numbers. This is the first time I have used this and it has worked very well.
The original EMD paper drawings were scanned and traced in a vector drawing program then exported as an Adobe Illustrator file which was then readable by the plotter/cutter that made the masks. By doing this method, the lettering is as exact as Mr. Dedek at EMD drew them in 1944.
In combination with the Dupont Centari paint this process has worked very well.

Oh, this is just utterly first-rate work. And so nice to see the properly-painted lettering, not vinyl stick-ons.

I think a trip to Slocum's Hollow may be in order soon.

Hey, I am from Maine!

My understanding is that the MM&A would like to find a good home for their F3 but feels there is not an appropriate museum in the state that could care for it.

I have only heard that MM&A keeps the F3A as a historic property. It is basically functional, except for the brakes. I have been told she is kind of a "mascot". I might be wrong, of course.

Nice ones, Ed. I also like the Vermont Railway boxcars in the background of the second photo. Who would have thought they might be historic someday?

You never had an answer - which is yes.
I can only comment at this time on the nose "Lackawanna" medallion (EMD terminology for herald).
I traced the original EMD paper file and made a vector file for input to the plotter.
For those wishing to donate to help with the repaint costs, a full size white vinyl version of this herald can be made for $75.00 plus $5.00 shipping. To look like an authentic herald this vinyl needs to be applied to either a maroon or blue background.
