The roundhouse and turntable are still there at Bellevue,Ohio! I had train 194 right by it on the red side track around 2:00am on June 7th.It is still used by the MOW department to store some equipment in and nearby. The only thing that was removed by it several years ago were about 3 old tank cars wich were used for fuel storage tanks wich sat on concrete supports that were minus trucks.

Theres alot of talk going around NS about Bellevue becoming the new hub of the Lake Division with some big major expansion in Bellevue yard with supposedly more bowel tracks to be added off the south hump lead and some other new tracks along with other expansion in the yard.Wick and all the other high up CEO's were in town about 2 weeks ago talking about the plans.I have not heard anything about the old roundhouse being razed as of yet and doubt if it will anytime soon as it is at the far west end of the yard away from all the main activty.

OK, I'll believe someone's own eyewitness account about the Bellevue roundhouse. My sources are usually reliable, including a published author. Guess no one is perfect. I am VERY glad to hear it is still standing. I kind of have hope that someday it might be an annex for the Mad River museum...

Paul, Yes that would be nice if the Mad River museum could someday aquire the old NKP Bellevue roundhouse.Prior to when i hired out on the RR in 92 you could still see the painted Nickel Plate Road wording on the upper ends of the roundhouse. They were painted over in black by NS and now the black paint is pealing off but you can no longer see the words.

Perhaps your sources confused the old LS&MS/NYC roundhouse and shop building at Norwalk as being the ones torn down as they were not that far away from Bellevue. Those lasted until around 2000 or 2001 when juveniles set fire to the inside wich damaged the upper clerestory roof of the shop building. They were torn down not long after that. That roundhouse was built in 1853 and was later modified with a brick wall across the front where the doors once were.It had cast support columns inside it.I only got to go inside both those buildings once. The old shop building still had track going across the length of it wich was imbedded in the concrete floor. The LS&MS/NYC depot was torn down on Dec.9 2002.Norwalk has pretty much obliviated all of its railroad history from the past.
