Of all the possible next steps to solving this mystery, this one is the last thing I would have expected. They will conduct a contest between the original treasure finders and a team of experts. Each group will electronically probe the site for an image of anything buried there. The participants will not be allowed to touch the ground (as if someone might sneak in a backhoe). This is truly bizarre. In my opinion, this is an indication of a government bureaucracy that does not trust the treasure hunters.

Obviously the treasure hunters must find an image in this contest. Maybe it will look just like the image they have shown the world already. From the latest news article, it sounds like they are bringing in a third team to produce imaging.

It would be funny if all three contenders produce images identical to what the two treasure hunters originally produced. What would happen then? Would the government suddenly be convinced that it is okay to dig? Or would they decide that another test is needed? If they keep diddling around, the ground will freeze and we will have to wait for spring.

What happens if the two treasure hunters find the same image as they originally provided, and the government team finds nothing?

sounds more like verification, and the ability to repeat the original radar scans teamed up with others to do some checking/hunting. When any dig starts I am sure they want to do it right.

Maybe this is normal procedure, but all through this story, there was been the constant reference to how the government authorities doubt the reports of the train discovery. So, this is beginning to look like a lot of foot dragging to avoid being proven wrong.

I see that in this latest news article, the authorities are indeed floating the idea that the search will have to wait for spring because the snow is coming. The snow is not there yet. What will be the next excuse? I am sure that the treasure hunters have the resources to dig while it snows.

At least the treasure hunters are now performing a new search, and the search conditions are now more favorable than before all the site clearing. It will be very interesting to see what their new search shows.

Somewhere embedded in the above link is a video of the treasure hunters performing their search today or yesterday after the rain let up.

Don't get so breathless. It sounds like independent verification to me. The fastest, and cheapest, way to debunk a myth is to have an independent team come in to replicate the results.

I would be worried about a whitewash if the original treasure hunters were barred from the site, then it would be easy for the gov't to announce "nothing there" even before they plug their equipment in. But apparently the original finders are included; let's see if they can produce their image, in multiple views, once again.

I like this approach. If the independent team doesn't see anything on their own equipment, they will very likely see what the "finders" see on their equipment (or vice versa). This way, the two teams should be able to audit each other's results.

This should give a good degree of transparency to the process.

It's a very interesting story to follow.

If it were possible for the treasure hunter’s survey to be audited, we would not need a second team to perform a confirmation survey. Also, it is important to note that if the independent team does not find what the treasure hunters find, it does not prove that the treasure hunter’s survey is faulty or fake. Of course, if both teams find the same imagery, there will be no question about the results of either team. That is unless the government calls for a third survey just to make sure the first two are not flawed.

The treasure hunters are doing their confirmation survey now, and they may have already finished. It sounds like the independent confirmation survey is lagging a bit behind by maybe a month or so. At least we will have a new survey by the original finders to look at any day now.

But the authorities are now confirming that no digging will happen until next spring, no matter what the surveys show. I suspect the independent confirmation survey will not happen until next spring.

Review of search details:

Last September, the two treasure hunters produced an image they claimed to be ground penetrating radar showing the lost train. Six days later (9/10), they produced a second image they claim to show the train. This second image appears to show armored tank vehicles in enough detail to apparently show the heavy guns protruding.

Next, the Polish authorities cleared the site of vegetation, and checked for explosives. They announced that the plan was to have the two treasure hunters perform another search, and then have an independent team of experts perform a search.

Next, the two treasure hunters performed another search using ground penetrating radar and a magnetometer. As I recall, this was about late October to early November. So far, no results from this search have been reported or shown to the public through news media.

Next, the independent team of experts performed their search, and is expected to announce the results in a week or so (“mid-December”).

Most interestingly, it is reported that this search by the team of experts will prove or disprove whether the lost train exists at the site. Maybe that is just the language of the writer, but I do not believe that any instrument search can prove or disprove the existence of the lost train. All they can do is provide evidence. The only way to prove or disprove it is to dig down and find what is producing the instrument image.

http://www.mining.com/nazi-gold-train-r ... r-of-days/

What is conspicuously lacking so far is the news of results of the search by the two treasure hunters as well as news of when their results will be made public. Maybe there was a decision to wait and announce the results of the treasure hunters’ search and the results from the team of experts shortly, however, such a decision has not been reported as being the plan.

It will be interesting to hear what the results of the search by the experts found. But it is not clear whether the search data will be released. What is promised according to the article is the announcement of whether the results from the team of experts proves or disproves the existence of the lost train.

What I would like to see reported is the results from the team of experts and their reasoning about what the results mean; along with the results and reasoning about the meaning from the two treasure hunters.

Just as I expected. An official pronouncement that there is no train; a classic case of proving a negative. Where are the image scans produced by the so-called experts who claim that nothing is there? This was so predictable.

Hi,

Once the Titanic sank, there was no way to find it until technology advanced.

There was a belief that an atom could not exist since it was too small to see.

There are UFOs at area 51. I believe this statement is mis-information. Area 51 is also known as a test flight area for the SR51, flying wings, and so forth. What better way to hide the truth but with an almost believable fantasy (I want to belive aliens exist so the proof that there is is the government is hiding facts someplace)?

How about the "known fact" that Fort Knox holds all the gold owned by the US government?

Only by excavating the site for the Nazi Train can you really "know" what is or is not there.

So I have to wonder... once the heat dies down, will contractors hired privately by the government officials who killed the story start digging?

;-)

Though I concur that "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"....

..... where is the supposed "evidence" from the two chaps claiming the train is there and demanding 10% of the take?

If said evidence actually exists, it should be extremely easy for this duo to find investors willing to underwrite a more thorough search, especially for a meager 10% "finder's fee."

The point is to search the site to find evidence. One team claims to have found evidence which they provided to the public. The next logical step is to search further. Ultimately, that further search would be to dig into the site.

Instead, the Polish government decided to have a second team search the site to see if their preliminary evidence matched that of the first team. Now, this second team claims that their evidence does not affirm the evidence claimed by the first team.

From that, the second team concludes that the site does not contain any train. It is this final conclusion that is totally unsupported. The second team DID NOT REFUTE the evidence offered by the first team. For the second team to make such an unsupported and illogical claim completely discredits the second team and their search. Their logic is childlike.

You do realize that Poland was ruled by a Stalinist Communist government for about sixty years, and the old ways die hard.

Rule No. 1: The truth is what we say it is.
Rule No. 2: If you disagree, see Rule No. 1.

They also share a rather long common border with other parts of the former Soviet Union, some of which are likely to soon again be under Russian domination. I can think of several scenarios where whatever is buried had best stay buried, and it has nothing to do with gold.
