I see one of the mods is back to deleting posts critical of John Rimmasch again. It’s no surprise. As a society, we seem incapable of having conversations about tough subjects that may upset some. Why should preservation bring any different results?

The posts in question did nothing whatsoever to advance the cause of rail preservation.

Instead, it was a gloating personal attack against an individual.

No matter how much the individual may have deserved indignation, that had been beaten to death in earlier discussions.

Mr. Mitchell is 110% correct on this. Over moderation will be the death knell of this site yet.

As Kelly Anderson and others have said we need to do all possible to highlight the fact that doing substandard work on these potentially deadly machines is a serious crime and that those that do so will end up in prison.

Truth be told, Lord only knows how many other examples of Rimmasch's corner cutting there are out there. As an industry we need to keep our fingers and toes crossed that none of them result in a serious incident.

Forums such as RyPN are important tools for spreading the warning to other potential corner cutters and erasing threads on the subject is hugely counter productive.

Because there isn't more exciting news in the railroad preservation world...

I imagine the posts were deleted because of the tone of the original post, as well as the various "prison" discussions. Not because of the discussion contained within regarding preventing bad actors, warnings, etc.

Here's my two cents...even though no one asked....
He who shall remain nameless will be remembered alongside the likes of Jensen, the Gettysburg incident, etc....
This will last for the next 50+ years....
The internet, etc will see to that....
Do we remember much bad stuff that happened beyond that?
Generally, it's got to be pretty bad to be remembered much longer than that....
Bad like, Soviets, WW2, etc....
This will be plenty sufficient to probably keep him from doing any rail related work for the foreseeable future....probably the rest of his life....
I doubt that more is needed....

Please explain how highlighting that an individual is supposed to begin a prison sentence--regarding a case that had already been beaten to f***ing smithereens in SEVERAL earlier threads/discussions here--somehow actually advances the cause of safety in the rail preservation avocation.

Advancing the future safety within the rail preservation industry will be enhanced by doing all possible to show all concerned that substandard, corner cutting work will be discovered and harsh penalties will ensue.

The more often the sad demise of this bad actor is shown as the end result, the better.

How about acting like a decent human being, and leading by example (doing exceptional work correctly the first time) instead of dwelling on the past. For pity sake, all this nonsense from "elders" that should friggin' know better. Onward and upward, learning from mistakes, doing the right thing. Wouldn't that be a better alternative?
