The Lackawanna Railroad "Phobe Snow" Video

Hello all,
These are actual 16mm home movies films made by the Late Robert G. Sage, SR. of Reading, PA. Who worked for the a railroad as a track inspector. I was told by his Nephew.
There were 12 Reels of movies from the late 1940's through the 50's. I bought these 16mm Films at a yard sale last year. They were selling off his Railroad Junk they called it. I bought other stuff too.

Someone made a comment on the video stating this predates the EL. There wasn't a date on the reels, I checked. Just the guy's name and that it was railroad stuff.
There's some PRR.NYC,B&O, Ect.

But only small clips about 5 minutes long.
PS. what does a Hudson look like?

You know, I'm POSITIVE I've seen the exact same footage--470 and all--in a commercially-released videotape. Or maybe it's just that those railfans riding the obs shot exactly the same things every time.

The highway bridge at Analomink is destroyed so it was after Hurricane Diane hit in 1955.

Neat to see diner 470 at Cresco - especially since ELDCPS owns it and can run it by the very same station.

Hi all,
I'm glad your enjoying this trip back in time to a by gone era of the Lackawanna Railroad, I just uploaded more of MR. Sage's film from the his collection of railroad films. I was talking with Mr. Sage's Daughter Sally last night by phone, she told me " that they live when she was a young girl in NJ and moved to PA. when she was 17 years old. Her Brother Bob was killed in the service. She told that the Mother and Daughter at Cresco Station, was her when she was 5, they rode by train to visit her Aunt. She said her Father love railroading, that he worked for the Cental Railroad of New Jersey for 35 years and love to travel and collect railroad junk"

One of the shots on the B&O/PRR film is taken from the rear of a train backing into St. Louis Union Station. The GM&O train to the left was a tip-off, and I can make out the Kiel Audotorium and the Civil Courts building in the background. I guess he took the Spirit of St. Louis to St. Louis

Right after the St. Louis segment, is a very short segment on Chicago's Grand Central Station. I just managed to recognize its clock tower.

Minor correction, besides the ones already made at YouTube comments:

The music you put to "Union Pacific" is actually Jerry Gray's arrangement for bandleader Artie Shaw of Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine" not "music by Benny Goodman."

Yes, I'm that old. Or at least my tastes in music are that wide-ranging. (Doesn't help that that tune was one of my mother's favorites.)

Alex, your right I put the wrong band leader down, but it really is Artie Shaw and his Orchestra, because I took the music off my Mother's Big Band records. She saw them all play more then once.

Ugh, to think how much of this stuff ends up in the local landfill or burn pile...

While we're on the diversion to big bands, the choice of Les Brown's signature tune "Sentamental Journey" for the Lackawanna video is coincidental to his Pennsylvania roots. Brown was born in Reinerton, PA, Schuylkill County.

I bought a few railroad lanterns and a few TT's plus the 16mm and Super 8mm film reels, the total cost was about $45.00.

I had no idea he was from PA. I do know that Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey was from Hazleton, PA. When I was digging historical information up for the application for the National Register of Historical Places for Sunnybrook Ballroom back in 2002. I found out that. I was one of Four people to place it on the Register in 2004.
