SINCE I DEPLORE BLIND LINKS WITHOUT EXPLANATION THAT INEVITABLY GO DEAD BUT RYPN LIVES ON...

The first link is an article by the Concord Monitor that says the state of NH is selling the Boston and Maine 1935 streamliner (it's a sister to the first Zephyrs) which was acquired from Edaville and a restoration effort was begun in the 1990s.

Quote:
Efforts to raise private funds to bring the Flying Yankee back to Concord as a centerpiece for a transportation museum fell through in 2017 and efforts to do something with state funds have never garnered much support. So the state is selling it off.

The Request for Proposals and other information including location maps, inventory form, and draft historic covenants, are available on the Department's Cultural Resources webpage at: dot.nh.gov/projects-plans-and-programs/programs/cultural-resources , under the heading "The Flying Yankee Information and Documentation."

Quote:
Interested bidders can inspect the carriages on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m to noon in Lincoln, while its trucks and other components are available for inspection the same day from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Twin Mountain.

The second link is a press release from the Flying Yankee Association which has a much more positive spin, as it appears this formal process supports their plans:
Quote:
The Flying Yankee Association (FYA) [another name for the Flying Yankee Restoration Group] has been working with the New Hampshire DOT Bureau of Rails & Transit (NHDOT) for nearly two years to find a path that would transfer ownership of the Flying Yankee from the State to a private entity. That work, now complete, has resulted in the State issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) that would seek qualified applicants willing to assume ownership of this historic train set. The RFP was released by the NHDOT on Friday, November 3rd.

“The Flying Yankee Association is in a unique position, with both a dedicated team and strong partnerships, to ensure this beloved treasure not only remains true to history, but to have it ride down the tracks under its own power once again,” said FYA’s Chairman Brian LaPlant.

O Andersen is correct. The original posts are worthless once the links go dead. And those of us outside the USA often cannot read those news articles because they are blocked.

A little description of why you are posting a link is always appreciated.

Hopefully potential bidders will know of the containers with the removed Winton engine and much of the electrical and air brake gear that has become separated from the train through NHDOT storage.
