Slaton Harvey House Update

In conjunction with the Slaton, Texas 2005 All-Class Reunion, over the fourth of July weekend, the Slaton Harvey House held an open house and ice-cream social on Sunday, July 3.

Hundreds of people packed in to the Harvey House, seeing the nearly-finished dining room and gift shop. Slaton Harvey Girl Rose Farschon made a cameo appearance in costume. Another special guest was local Fred Harvey china collector Paul Schacht, who showed a beautiful collection of plates, cups, saucers, and other Harvey memorabilia in the restored gift shop area.

Slaton native and railroad artist Tex Wilson also flew in for the event, and announced a donation of his “Workin’ on the railroad” art prints, to be displayed throughout the building.

The Association has recently received grants to build a four suite bed and breakfast upstairs, along with the dining room lunch counter. We are actively searching for an operator for the B&B, and hope to open it in the summer of 2006.
