I recently got all of the logs from the NYCH tugs, so if we have dates, we can almost pin down those moves to the minute. One lining a carfloat on the nose up the East River is a long dead artform. Nobody would ever think of doing that today with a 1500HP single screw tug.

Here is the operation Nova55 is describing. Photos 18 to 23 of the Barriger album show this operation. I also shot 16mm movies of it.

I have recently added captions for most of the photos in the railroad tug album.

A few days after the below PC photo was taken these units were at the point on an experimental RoadRailer train, operated by a two-person crew of supervisors, through my hometown in Illinois, which resulted in a short strike by the unions representing Santa Fe train crews. I have previously recounted my unfortunate interaction with staffers from a train-themed publication when they came to said town to photograph that train. Brings back memories.

I believe these GP60 demonstrators, with their distinctive rounded short hood contours, were in the EMD lease fleet for a long time and then were traded to CSX.

Just saw two weeks ago where CSX sold two of them to Metro East Industries, and the third was sold a while back to Larry's Truck & Electric.

Interesting. At first I was shocked that GP60s, arguably the best four-axle freight power ever, and some of the last, would end up in Larry's rent-a-wreck fleet, but then I had to remind myself that they are closing in on 40 years old now.

The most frequent question I get nowadays about 60-series is "How do you download the fault log"? I tell the caller to page through the archive with the screen and take pictures of the fault list with their phone.

Barriger Library Albums have copyright notices. But before they started posting my photos, there were already more people claiming credit on the internet for my photos of the Chessie System tug SEABOARD than the entire crew on the tug during the delivery trip, and I was the only one on board who had a camera.

Note that the very significant collection of sectioned parts has the note right in its title that it would be useful for ideas for museum displays.

That fabulous display room full of cutaway locomotive parts used to be at Wabtec Distribution in Elk Grove, Illinois.

Today we added photos of the cutaway CAT 3600 engines at the training center in Peoria, some of the EMD trade show displays, and started on the Detroit Diesel displays. I tried to photograph every cutaway display that I saw over the years.

When the beautiful cutaway EMD 645 turbocharger at Engine Systems was retired, I called several museums about it. Nobody was interested.
