So now anyhow, going back to that Paintref 1984 Ford fleet chip page...

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipcreate. ... Fleet&ret=

...if 93-79039 and 6864 are the same color, chances are pretty darn good the two Singer greens, 7237 (93-57625) and 93-98021, are identical as well...

Digging even deeper into this particular hole, in the 1969 fleet book Paintref has, the Singer/Seven-Up green located on the upper left is labeled as 93-74110. LOL

93-79039 is on the lower left...

93-74844, on the lower right, is Seven-Up's secondary lighter green color and the next lighter shade from 93-79039...

https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetai ... pont=74844

Notice the newer logo on the door which, compared to the older paint job on the body, may indicate how the regular Seven-Up green initially aged, or it could just be mismatched... LOL

Anyway, so now it looks like Safety Always 5248 Yellow the last time the Reading's 900's were painted...

Didn't see that one coming, huh? LOL Have a great Memorial Day weekend, everyone!!!

Wow, I'm really striking it rich with the White Pass & Yukon here, so much so I believe I've managed to solve the riddle of the classic Pullman "Green"...

There’s a good dissertation on Pullman and UPS colors on Don Strack’s website: https://utahrails.net/pass/pullman-green.php.

Hi Eric!!! I'm glad you're still with me here. Hope everything's well on your end.

Turns out the Pullman colors are all darker shades of yellow-orange to yellow. Pullman Brown is more orangish while Pullman Green and UPS Brown fall more toward the yellow side. The Brewster colors are closer to green.

This is absolutely fascinating. Venetian Yellow is a slightly darker shade of Imitation Gold and Pullman Green is a way darker shade of both. All have a hue angle of 45 degrees. Check it out for yourself!!!

Perhaps we should be calling it "Pullman Gold"... LOL

UPS Brown is the greenest of those three Pullman colors and also the darkest. That can be seen with the truck between the WPYR's Pullman Green coaches up above. Here are UPS Brown and GMC Brewster Green back-to-back. The Brewster is about 30 degrees greener than Big Brown's greenish gold.

Both of these pics were taken here in PA within twenty miles of each other, albeit a few decades apart, and RDG RS-3 #444 is just out of the wash...

Looky what I've got, Eric. This should help clear up any befuddlement and confusion over Imitation Gold, especially on my part. LOL It definitely looks a lot like the color of the lettering on #444 up above...

Now see, I was always under the impression, until very recently, that the term "imitation gold", like "Pullman green", referred to a group of similar colors. in this case, however, Imitation Gold is the established name of this particular color in its 95-series lettering and striping incarnation.

1 Shot still offers a named Imitation Gold as part of their paint lineup...

http://www.1shot.com/One-Shot/colors/Le ... amels.aspx

As a fleet or commercial color, it may be known as Cream or Yellow, examples of which I'll post here shortly.

Back in 1942, DuPont's striping and lettering selection was a bit more limited but all of these colors do match a fleet equivalent. A quick glance indicates 95-028 Cream is identical to 93-1222 Cream, Plate #6 in the 1954 catalog, 009 Light Yellow is the same as 54701 Yellow, and 003 Medium Yellow matches 6808 Yellow. 017 is most likely Omaha Orange, 002 Red is in the fleet catalog but the chips don't quite line up, and I'm still looking at 005 Light Green which may be that darn 1317 Green again... LOL

A little while back, I had purchased a 1974 DuPont truck color catalog in order to verify whether or not the 93-242 Yellow and 42867 Dodge Brite Yellow chips actually matched, which they do, although not super-perfect You can tell they're supposed to be the same, anyway. Also on the '74 pages is a chip called Ford Sandpiper Yellow, 42831, which was only used for one model year. An extremely minor shade difference aside, this chip pretty much matches that of the 1942 014 Imitation Gold.

It is also a fleet color called Cream and was used by Frito-Lay...

So here are remains of the second paint job on the remains of the cab of RDG FA-1 #301 at the Alco Museum. Looks like a hand-lettering job for sure. The rust is the correct color... LOL

Computer 014 Imitation Gold versus computer Pullman Brown. Interesting that those two may be different shades of the same color. HMMMM...

Back in the day, a lot of shops used pounce templates that would leave little chalk powder dots in the outline of the lettering. They’d then paint by hand using the required color stencil paint following the dotted outlines. That’s likely what you have on the cab unit.

Laying it out free-hand was even more labor intensive. Nothing beats a stencil and spray gun nowadays. Then you only have to paint out the stencil bridges by hand where required. For a one-off, an adhesive mask is even quicker as it has no stencil bridges. Stick, spray, peel & go.

Cool info, Eric!!! On a quick side note, I had to run up to Hershey today and on my way I passed by this old Baltimore Transit bus sitting out in front of the AACA Museum on Route 39. If that paint job matches the original, I can tell you right now those colors are GMC Apple Green and Grande Gold. In real life, that yellow looks exactly like the 5607 chip, at least from the road.

I still should take my chip book up there and check for sure, though. LOL
