FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stories of the Nickel Plate Road with Doyle McCormack
BELLEVUE, OHIO – A man who has roots to one of America's greatest railroads will return to the heart of it to tell of its stories and much more.
Railroad preservationist extraordinaire, Doyle McCormack, will be sharing his experiences on the Nickel Plate Road during an event at the Mad River & NKP Museum in Bellevue, Ohio, on Saturday, May 16, 2020. The event is a fundraiser for the American Steam Railroad, which is currently restoring Reading locomotive 2100 in Cleveland.
McCormack's father used to work on the Nickel Plate Road, and he followed his footsteps into a lifelong career. The first locomotive he helped restore was one of the railroad's famous "Berkshire" type of steam locomotives back in the early 1960s; it was one of many engines he helped bring back to life over the next several decades. The most famous of which, Southern Pacific "Daylight" 4449, pulled the American Freedom Train across the country in 1975-76.

"Through the tens of thousands of miles he has traveled with the Daylight engine," said ASR president Steven Harvey, "Doyle has shown what can be done with a steam locomotive, even when it's decades since the last one ran in regular service."
McCormack will talk of his experiences with steam locomotives during the presentation, and even of the streamlined Alco PA diesel that he resurrected from a Mexico scrapyard and returned to its full Nickel Plate Road glory.

The event will start at 3:00 p.m. with tours of the museum and caboose rides. A catered dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the presentation and then Q&A to follow. Guests will be able to enjoy taking a look inside the cab Nickel Plate Road locomotive 757, one of the railroad's Berkshire locomotives that the museum has recently acquired.

Tickets are $105.00 per person, and more information about the event can be found at FireUp2100.org

American Steam Railroad Preservation Association is a non-profit dedicated to preserving experiences from railroading's golden age by saving historic railway equipment.

The term "Legends of Steam" would certainly apply to Doyle. No question there.
I just hope someday soon, if he's again asked to come to former NKP territory, he can reply, "Only if I can run my PA to your event," and have it so!

I must say this looks like a very interesting event, especially for fans of the Nickel Plate. I will really consider attending this event. I believe that Mr. McCormack is originally from Conneaut Ohio, home to the 757's sister the 755. There is a headlight that he donated to that museum off a Berkshire.

Bessemer,

Doyle is most definitely from Conneaut. This will be a very NKP-esqe event, seeing as how it is being held in Bellevue, the 757 will be a key part of the event and Doyle is a NKP man at heart. Hope you can join us and help spread the word to see the event sold out and get more funds pumped into the 2100 this year.

All, a friendly reminder that tickets are still selling. Don't wait and miss out! This event will sell out.

At American Steam Railroad, our first and foremost priority is safety. For the past couple of weeks, we have been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and are following recommendations from federal, state, and local officials about the best course of action to take.

In the interest of your safety, we are moving the date of our upcoming Doyle McCormack dinner to Saturday, July 25, at 3:00 p.m. The event will continue as planned with caboose rides, museum tours, and BBQ meal featuring a presentation from Mr. McCormack.

If you have already bought a ticket, it will be honored on this new date. If you are unable to attend and have already purchased a ticket, email contact@americansteamrailroad.org to arrange a refund. Please note that requests for a refund will not be granted after Friday, April 24.

We appreciate your support and understanding during these uncertain times. We offer our best wishes to you and yours for good health and security during this period. We're looking forward to having you enjoy many future events with us.

Be prepared -- just in case -- to make firm arrangements to keep age 50+ people functionally isolated from those who have tested positive at some time for SARS-CoV-2 strains, or those who are 'younger' and less at critical risk. That might involve little more than setting up closed-circuit viewing or better air circulation and filtering. And proactive disinfection with the 'right' material and technique. (Actual discussion of all that stuff reserved for the 'coronavirus' thread...)

I suspect by July all this will be settled approach and technology -- but it might just continue to be the current wacky response to the wrong things. Forethought in this case will prove forearmed.
