Hi
I found this bit of information on another website, and I would like to pass it on, to this site.
Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge # 18 that has been a display at Laws, California since 1954, has been restored to operation, during a six-year overhaul, and was Steamed for the first time in 2017.
This couldn't be done without the help of trained personnel, one of the crew members that works for the Durango & Silverton RR, played a major role on getting the locomotive back under steam.
The locomotive is a 4-6-0 and is capable of pulling six or seven coaches, the engine is going to be moved from Laws, California, to Durango, Colorado, on or about November 1, 2018.
The locomotive is to become a teaching machine, for the crews of the D&S to learn how to fire an Oil Fired Locomotive. The engine will join the current roster on the D&S, once a few tests are performed, to meet the current FRA program. For what I could find out, there is no set date, or when the locomotive will return of Laws, California.

The following is from the Carson and Colorado Railway website:
Quote:
And yes its true, the #18 will be going to the Durango and Silverton Railroad this winter and spring for limited operations on the D&SNG and to provide a platform for the D&SNG crews to work on an oil burning locomotive. We look forward to working with the D&SNG on this endeavor. There will be multiple opportunities to see the #18 in action while in Durango, some of which will be announced in the near future.

Elsewhere, on the NGDF, Randy Babcock indicated that there is to be a future joint press release from C&C Ry and D&S. Randy is a lead person for the restoration of #18 and is also Mechanical Foreman at the D&S.

Exciting times on the narrow gauge! While far from its native habitat, it will be cool to see #18 really get a workout on the D&S.

Some joke can most assuredly be made about an SP engine coming to a DRGW line as well...
