Pan Am Railway just acquired a Wabash dome from Georgia, Would this be the WAB 201 that was at New Georgia? Pan Am has assigned the dome number ST 102.

Thanks!

Don -

This nearly 8 year old resurrected thread must have seen situations with some of these cars changed, and one that has is the above car which I believe is now at the Monticello Railway Museum.

MRM also has a Wabash heavyweight coach that they are reportedly restoring.

The "Windy City" mentioned above, restored as Wabash #6, at the Monticello Railway Museum in 2015 after exterior painting. Office Car 6 was last assigned to the Wabash's Chief Engineer. The previous owners kept the interior virtually intact, and better yet, stored the car indoors.

Wabash 6 is on static display inside the carbarn adjacent to the Nelson's Crossing depot at the main entrance to the museum. At some point, once the brakes are rebuilt, partial HEP added and a chiller installed to make cold water for the ice-activated air conditioning system, the car may see (very) limited use on museum special trains.

Monticello also has the Wabash "City of Decatur" parlor car (rebuilt 1955 from parlor car "Clara Morris", Pullman 1927) and two coaches: 1238 and 1409, both ACF-built in 1927 (the former privately owned). All un-restored at present.

Some updates / add-on to this listing according to the latest Canadian Trackside Guide (2016 edition):

-ONR #400 is currently stored in Cochrane ON yard and was scheduled to go to the Cochrane Railway and Pionneer Museum. Not sure if this is still the case.

-Tshiuetin Rail Transportation Inc., which runs from Sept-Iles QC to Schefferville, owns dome coach #13510 (ex QNSL #13510, exx SOU 1613, exxx NW 1613, nee Wabash #203). Built 1958 by PS. Car is listed as in service.

Wabash business car #5 is now owned by the Aberdeen Carolina & Western as their #105. Unsure of whether or not the car has received any work but I do know that the ex-GB&W #600 has been repainted in the new burgundy and gold scheme that has been adopted by the road.

As far as WAB #102/PA #102 goes, here is a link to a recent shot of the car after it was refurbished, repainted into PA blue...

A Pullman sleeper the Emerald Vale was maintained for service on the Wabash. It was later sold outright to the Wabash, then transferred to its Ann Arbor Railroad subsidiary for use as a camp car. The interior was gutted and it now has a diner-like kitchen and bar area, with furnace, stove, generator and propane bottles. It was transferred to the Southern Michigan Railroad Society in 1985. One side's windows were all smashed enroute, replaced with plywood (installed in where the glass went) and later replaced with glass again. The car is basically sound but awaits restoration.

No one has mentioned the former N&W/WAB modernized coach that is on the San Luis & Rio Grande. N&W 1093, nee-WAB 1393, awaits restoration...

Jerry & all;
Just discovered from a message thread on a FB group that the Indiana is no longer at AC&W; it was sold to some other entity. I have a FB message in to AC&W to try and find out who has the car now.

The Valley Railroad in Essex, Connecticut has Pullman Standard heavyweight parlor “Wayfarer”. It went to KCS as #501, then to the Reader under the wrong identity, then to the Valley, where is was restored and placed in service as “Wallingford”.

The Pullman parlor-lounge "Wallingford" at VRR was originally a 36-seat parlor of that name, built 1927 for NYNH&H service. In 1937, Pullman rebuilt "Wallingford" and "Taunton" (of the same series) into parlor-lounges for Wabash service, renaming them "Wayfarer" and "Rambler" respectively. In this service, they were painted in Wabash Blue. They later went to KCS, and one car was eventually bought by Reader in the very early 1960s. In Reader service, it was named "Rambler". VRR bought the car about 1976.

At first, the VRR people thought they were getting "Taunton" ("Rambler", as Reader had named it), but once the restoration work started, evidence (parts marked and stamped on back side) showed it was indeed "Wallingford-Wayfarer".

So, the "Wally" served three Class One roads while in regular service, plus a shortline, before serving over 40 years in tourist operation. VRR has reconfigured the interior for dinner train service.

The Oil Creek & Titusville tourist railroad in NW Pennsylvania has a former Wabash heavyweight coach #1399 (now called the Cannonball) in their consist. A photo of the car can be viewed in Google images under Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad.
