While you are all pipe dreaming about saving these cranes, just remember what happened when Mid-Continent "de-ascessioned" theirs. NO bids by anybody except the scrappers. While both cranes in question were rough looking, one of the two simply needed a boiler recertification to operate. Anyone who wants one of these things has to have a serious desire and extremely deep pockets as no railroad will transport them as is. Even if they had roller bearing trucks it would be very difficult to persuade the RRs to transport them.

Well.... Not entirely true but it would cost a few bucks and depends on where and on which railroad. Also, they can be taken apart and trucked. Again, not cheap but possible.
