Evening, I am wondering if anyone can shed a little more light on UP 910004 Location: Portland, OR?

A picture of it can be seen here http://www.brian894x4.com/RRrailmaintequipphotos.html

After seeing that mess with the two NW cranes it has got me interested in preserved steam cranes and those not yet preserved.

A lot of dirt around it. They nearly buried it.

Isn't there a similar crane and Vanderbilt tender in Ogden?

Hi
I found a little something on Surviving Steam Cranes of North America

(Never moved to the museum site. As of May 2017 the crane was still at Valmont Butte setting on land owned by the City of Boulder.)

Thanks for the replies.

I wonder how much they are trying to get for the crane and tender considering the brasses have been stolen?

It is still there, I tracked it down with the help of an RyPN regular, I have photos from today from about 30 feet away and ten feet up because below that is brush, but I don't have a hosting page so I have no way to post them here. The owner says it was rebuilt by UP in the 1970s, then sold to him/them, then borrowed by UP once a bit later. He said it had the brasses stolen in the 1980s, and the cab appliances after that. It has rail access still, one of the G&W lines in the area he thought. He knows about railfans and said he had seen it mentioned online on a forum like this one some time ago.

Here it is, I figured it out. These are the best angles I could get, it is on a grade about ten feet higher than where I took the photos. (The originals are better than the photobucket versions I posted, you can see the rivets).

PMC, Thanks for the updated pictures. It's a shame the dang brasses and cab controls were stripped out.

I wonder what type of trucks are under the crane? Might be possible to swap the trucks under both the tender and crane for modern freight car trucks to move the crane by rail.

I wonder how many sets of 6 wheel 3 axle freight car trucks are still around?

The owner said that if I came back next week he could take me to it, he just didn't have time today, but didn't mind if I shot it from the other side of two fences. Depending on how much time I have I may go. But from what he says the brush is so close it might be hard to see.

I have been looking at this one for years. Those are blackberry bushes around it, watch out for thorns. Asked Dick Samuels about getting it for his operation, and the answer was "Iam aware of this relic but don't believe the BNSF or UP would move it on live rails. " With that said, I suspect that it would have to be trucked out. I wish it could be saved.

You said it was for sale, how much?

It wasn't me who said it was for sale, I have no idea what his plans are for it, that he has maintained it mostly intact for 40 years is a bit of a miracle and I really don't want to start him thinking. Plus I think it is rude to walk up to someone cold and ask if something not advertised is for sale unless you are ready to buy it and have a price (and the cash) to offer him.
