The former Erie & Pittsburgh/PRR station complex in Sharon, northwestern Pa., is in jeopardy. The passenger station, express office, and freight station are all part of the same restaurant complex (last Quaker Steak & Lube) and obscured greatly by additions. http://wkbn.com/2017/10/18/historic-sha ... o-save-it/

Anyone think they "need" such a display locomotive? Not to give Brother Rowlands another project, but Youngstown isn't that far away.......

There are two of them, and I've talked about them on here before.

Since we have the other one that we don't have resources to take care of, I don't know what having the other one would do for us. One possible use may be to take it to Youngstown Steel Heritage and put it on display and use the pressure vessel as a 3,000 gallon water storage tank for the J&L 58.

I will do some checking on the locomotive and see what I can come up with on it.

When it rains it pours...

Cleveland is only another 60 or 70 miles away also. This loco might make a nice display in front of the Midwest Railway B&O Roundhouse. At 42 tons the locomotive move could be done with a 50 ton capacity low boy trailer.

Update:

The station is set to be demolished this week.

The fireless steamer is still available; several museums has supposedly expressed an interest:

Does anyone have information about the Pullman-Standard baggage-coach that is attached to the building? At a minimum, it looks like the baggage door and fluting could be salvaged.

As a past owner of a fireless cooker, I tend to have a soft spot for such beasts so the topic intrigues me. The article brings up two key points:

1) “The metal on the bottom section of the locomotive is all rotted out." Only a hunch, but would this be the jacketing and would there be asbestos under it? In some ways that may help buy the engine some time as there is little that can be done until this is abated.

2) "A couple of railroad museums contacted us about taking the locomotive...." Anyone have an update on how serious these museums may be?

As fireless engines go, this one is no light weight at 42 tons. Probably a few tons lighter than that without water. Would be interesting to know if it rolls or not as that could drive what kind of trailer is used to move it and whether a crane is needed.

Again, could be a nice piece for someone.
