Now that SD cards are big enough, we're seeing engineers make videos of entire train runs. Some are magnificent, hours of 1080p, like this one. It can be rather interesting, you can easily sync with Google Earth and follow along.

I had this one going in the background: a 2-hour trip across southern Norway on the Bergen line. (mind you, the line is on the same latitude line as Whitehorse, Yukon). The middle 20 minutes is almost entirely in snowshed, so when this flashed up, it caught my eye. At this point in the video, coming at you.

It looks to be either a snowplow or a snow attachment. Aside from very tiny rotaries, above them are propellers!

I wonder if we import such machines here. That one is standard gage.

Beilhack snowblower. Conrail imported one in the early 1990s, now on CSX.

Here's an 'official' page with sections that describe the cutterhead and drive options.

https://www.aebi-schmidt-international.com/en/products/566/697

Do not be confused by the non-American English conventions used. "Automotive" means "self-propelled" and "shunted" means "pushed by separate locomotives"

Note that the individual cutterheads, driven by U-jointed Cardan shafts, can be shifted outward to (under)cut in ways that traditional rotary doors can't.

The little propeller things are intended to break up packed snow to feed better into the protruding cones of the cutters.
