How does the train transition from the Capital Sub to the Old Main Line? My map shows no direct wye connection at Relay; does the power run around, and the train reverse direction to go west?

Boot this to "Railfanning," mods.

There's this thing called the Metropolitan Sub/Branch. Runs from Point of Rocks to right north of Union Station in DC.

Sandy, not possible according to news release. and map. Trains go to Hiatt Jct. and join Capitol Sub. In either case, to get to Old Main Sub, they either must pull ahead on Capitol through Relay then reverse there on to Old Main, or pull through Hiatt, reverse there, and pull around wye north of Union Station to access Metro Sub, and ultimately Old Main at Point of Rocks.

Just found a more accurate map; Alexandria Jct. allows trains to turn both directions on Capital Sub. Sorry for the confusion.

CSX has spent a lot of money upgrading the connections along there, including replacing at least one highway bridge to allow double track and lowering track under others.

My office in Silver Spring overlooks the Met sub; I haven't been in since the tunnel opened up, but it will be a different sight to see the double stacks. It will be interesting to see how this changes the traffic rates/patterns. There has clearly been an up tick in container trains over the past six months even before the double stacking.
