Les,

We run CNW 4160 a couple times a year for the time being. The new parts donor is MBTA 902 which arrived earlier this year. It's literally a shaker box kit of parts, with an electrical cabinet burned to a crisp and a prime mover that's literally just bolted to the frame and not connected to anything.

So when can we expect to see the CNW 284 arriving on our property?

JG

JG -

Probably as soon as we see C&NW 4160 sitting on our doorstep!

Seriously, C&NW #284 was donated to HVRM by Lawrence Foods. I was involved (as road escort) for the move, which was not a lot of fun thanks to the State of Illinois highway routing. Lawrence Foods had two similar C&NW 40' steel boxcars in addition to the 284. Hopefully, IRM was able to get one (or both) of those donated to them.

GN Survivors:

GP7's in this post, GP9's in a second post, followed by survivors of the NP, CB&Q, etc.

Order #6117, November 1950, 6 units, GN #600-#605, serials #11049-#11054, steam boiler-equipped:

#600 to BN #1500:1, transferred 1/72 to FW&D #700, to BN #1670 by 1/82, retired 5/83 and sold 6/83 to Iowa RR (same #), later resold to FarmRail as FMRC #8255 and named Wichita, most recent photo on RR Picture Archives taken 2/15 at TRRA facility, Madison, IL.

#604 to BN #1504:1, rebuilt 2/75 to chop-nosed GP10 #1404, retired 2/87 and sold 5/87 to National RY Equipment Co. (NREX) as #407, later resold to Iowa Interstate (IAIS) same # (mis-listed on RR Picture Archives as GP8), last photo taken 6/04 in service in Joliet, IL, no longer listed on IAIS roster on http://www.thedieselshop.us. No current info.

#605 to BN #1505:1, rebuilt 10/74 to c-n GP10 #1405, retired 4/87 and sold 8/87 to NREX #408, later resold to IAIS same #, later resold to Power Source Supply Inc. (PWSX, same #), last photo 6/05 at Freeport, IL. No current info.

Order #5029, September-October 1950, 17 units, GN #606-#622, serials #11032-#11048:

#606 to BN #1506:1, rebuilt 6/75 to c-n GP10 #1406, to BNSF #1406:1, listed by Biel as retired 1/01, however photographed 4/04 at Nichols, MO, commented by Alan Grey as still on roster as of 2/14 for possible rebuild to genset, however, photos of Quaker Oats Co. (QOHX) #100 (which is mis-listed as a GP9; assigned to Saint Joseph, MO), taken as early as 6/07 are identified as this engine; however, in another contradiction, comment by David Gentry ID's the #100 as the former GN #612/BN #1512:1/c-n GP10 #1412, which was rebuilt in 5/75, retired 6/86 and sold 12/86 to Wilson RY Corp. It appears that QOHX is indeed the nee-#612, not the #606, as BNSF GG20B #1213 is listed as being rebuilt from the #606. BNSF has disassembled their 5 "Green Goats"; 2 of which were rebuilt from nee-GN GP7's: the #1213 and the #1212, which was originally GN #610, to BN #1510:1, and rebuilt 11/76 to c-n GP10 #1438.

#607 to BN #1507:1, rebuilt 5/75 to c-n GP10 #1407, to BNSF #1407:1, retired 1/01, to NREX, last photo of unit in service taken 7/05 at Mount Hope, WV, stored at Dixmoor, IL, before 7/07, latest photo at Dixmoor taken 12/14.

#608 to BN #1508:1, rebuilt 3/75 to c-n GP10 #1408, to BNSF #1408:1, retired 10/08, stored at Topeka, sold to Larry's Truck & Electric (LTEX) and moved 7/11 to Lordstown, OH, latest photo taken 8/13.

#609 to BN #1509:1, rebuilt 12/74 to c-n GP10 #1409, to BNSF #1409:1, retired 11/05, sold to Ag-Processing, Inc. (AGPX) #1409 and assigned to Hastings, NE, most recent photo taken 2/15.

#611 to BN #1511:1, rebuilt 11/74 to c-n GP10 #1411, to BNSF #1411:1, retired 10/08, sold to Northern Lines (NLR) #1411 (Saint Cloud, MN), most recent photo 7/15.

#615 to BN #1515:1, rebuilt 1/75 to c-n GP10 #1415, retired 4/87 and sold 8/87 to NREX #405, to IAIS, to PWSX, to Progress Rail Service (PRSX), last photo taken 5/07 at Grand Island, NE. No current info.

#616 to BN #1516:1, rebuilt 11/74 to c-n GP10 #1416, retired 12/90 and sold 2/91 to Independent Locomotive Service (ILSX), resold c. 1992 to Central RR of Indianapolis (CERA) as #1752 (mis-listed as GP7), resold to RY Service Contractors, Inc. (MJRX), resold to Advanced BioEnergy (ABEX) and assigned to ethanol plant in Fairmont, NE, most recent photo 10/08.

#617 to BN #1517:1, rebuilt 12/74 to c-n GP10 #1417, retired 12/90 and sold 2/91 to ILSX, resold to Strata Corporation (BGSX), most recent photo 5/09.

#618 to BN #1518:1, rebuilt 3/75 to c-n GP10 #1418, to BNSF #1418:1, commented by Karl Andraschko as last GP10 on BNSF roster, retired at unknown date and sold before 1/11 to ILSX #1418, leased to Twin Cities & Western (TCWR), prime mover suffered critical failure, prime mover replaced at ILSX shops (photo 12/11) and renumbered to #1345 sometime before 4/12, then leased to St. Croix Valley RR Co. (SCXY), most recent photo 10/14, apparently no longer leased to SCXY.

#620, rebuilt with chopped nose in 1967, to BN #1520:1, rebuilt 4/75 to GP10 #1420, retired 2/91 and sold 5/91 to Red River Valley & Western (RRVW) #401, resold 7/91 to TCWR, resold 9/99 to ILSX, later resold to Belt RY of Chicago #482. No current info.

#621 to BN #1521:1, rebuilt 8/74 to c-n GP10 #1400, retired 8/07, moved sometime before 3/09 to Airway Heights, WA (near Spokane), sold sometime before 7/10 to Western Rail Inc. (WRIX) (time of last photo).

#622 to BN #1522:1, sold 10/72 to Potlatch Forest Industries #1522, later resold to ICG and rebuilt to GP10 #8465, to IC, resold to Pioneer Rail Equipment (PREX) #1000 and assigned to Elkhart & Western (EWR) (Elkhart, IN), most recent photo 11/14.

Order #5076, April-June 1951, 27 units, GN #623-#649, serials #13336-#13362:

#623 to BN #1523:1, rebuilt 9/74 to c-n GP10 #1401, retired 2/1991 and sold 5/91 to RRVW #402, resold c. 7/91 to TCRW, resold 9/99 to ILSX, later resold to BRC #483, resold before 8/05 to Relco (RLCX) #1703, last photo 6/09 at Galesburg, IL. No current info.

#628 to BN #1528:1, rebuilt 6/75 to c-n GP10 #1422, to BNSF #1422:1, sold sometime between 3/12 and 8/14 to NREX (time of last photo, at Old Monroe, MO).

#629 to BN #1529:1, wrecked 1/73, Rockville, MN, sold 2/73 to Precision National Corp. #1500, resold to Agrico Chemical (AAX) #1515, last photo 12/99 in Pierce, FL. Is the #1515 still extant? Thanks in advance!

#639 to BN #1539:1, rebuilt 2/75 to c-n GP10 #1410, sold sometime before 5/92 to CERA #1753 (likely via ILSX), later resold to On Track Rail Services (OTSX) #70, assigned to Great Miami RY (GMRY), compressor failed, stored Hamilton, OH, resold to LTEX, last photo 6/10 at Riverdale, IL. two from Exporail / Canadian Railway Museum more for the list:

-AMT 1311: It was built as CN #4307 in March 1959 and was part of a total group of 349 similar locomotives built between 1955 and 1959 for CN. Along with the MLW RS18 (an example of which is our CN #3684) and on a lesser scale, CLC’s road switcher, the H16-44, these units replaced steam locomotives across Canada. Their versatility, ease of maintenance and more so, their capacity to operate in multiple unit lashups, made them a cornerstone of CN’s locomotive fleet until the arrival of more powerful units in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

A decade later, their reliability started to suffer as age overtook them. Instead of replacing them, CN’s Pointe St-Charles embarked on what was likely the industry’s most successful GP9 rebuilding program, essentially creating a new locomotive. Between 1981 and 1994, 249 locomotives and 58 slugs were rebuilt, many of which remain in service as of 2012.

AMT #1311 was part of an order of four similar rebuilt locomotives (and essentially copies of CN’s rebuilt GP9s) purchased by the Quebec government purchase in 1989 from CN, which were to be used to expand the STCUM’s Montreal – Rigaud service. These, along with six generator cars, remained in service until their retirement in 2011; their final assignments were AMT’s Delson – Candiac line. 1311 was donated to the CRHA by the AMT in July 2011.

-CP 1608: This locomotive was one of 200 similar locomotives built by GMD for Canadian Pacific between 1954 and 1959 (as #8611). The EMD/GMD GP9 was the most reliable and practical first generation diesel locomotive. Used in a wide variety of roles, it was most often found in Western Canada.

CP elected to rebuilt 198 of these locomotives during the 1980s at both its Ogden (Calgary AB) and Angus (Montreal QC) shops, converting them into 148 switchers and 50 road switchers. CP 1608 emerged from Angus Shops in December 1985. The majority of CP’s rebuilt GP9 locomotives were retired between 2010 and 2013.

#1608 was last in service around the Montreal region and was donated in 2013 to the CRHA for use at Exporail in interpretative passenger railway service and on-site switching operations.

I believe that was originally an U.S. Army GP7L.

Order #7562, October 1957-February 1958, 5 units, GN #723-#727, serials #24085-#24089:

These units were rebuilt from FT A and B units, with one unit completed each month.

FTA #251A to GP9 #726 to BN #1799. With this unit's history, there seems to be some confusion, which I'll try to clear up:

Ben Ringnalda's GN Empire website lists that the #1799 was stored unserviceable in 10/91 and rebuilt in 10/92 by M-K to chop-nosed GP28M #1508 (2nd), to BNSF #1508, which according to photos on RR Picture Archives is stenciled as a GP28-2, and was last photographed in 3/15 in Pasco, WA.

Now, here's where the confusion starts: Ringnalda lists that the FTB #401C/GP9 #727/BN #1800 was to become BNSF #1606 (1st), but that it was retired before the merger took effect, in 11/94. However, some sources list that the #727 was rebuilt to #1508, not the #726, and some websites have an identity crisis with this GP28M, depending on which page you look at:

1) First off, RR Picture Archives lists that #1508 is the #727/#1800, with #727's correct serial #24089.

2) Second, on Charles Biel's Trainpix website, in the BNSF section, on the page for the #16xx-series GP9's, the #1606 is listed as the #727/#1800, with serial #24089; on this page it is also listed as retired in 11/94.

___2a) However, in contradiction, Biel's GP28M page in the BNSF section lists that the #1508 is the #726/#1799, but with serial #24089, instead of #726's correct #24088.

___2b) In Biel's BN section, on the GP9 page, the #726/#1799 (with correct serial #24088) is listed as rebuilt in 10/92 to #1508:2, and the #727/#1800 (with correct serial #24089) is listed as intended to become BNSF #1606:1, but retired 11/94.

___2c) In the BN section on the GP28M page, the #1508:2 is listed as the former #726/#1799, with incorrect serial #24089.

3) Finally, The Diesel Shop's BNSF page lists that the #1508 is the #727/#1800, with #727's serial #24089.

The only conclusions I can reach is that either:

1a) There was an error that occurred in either official records/paperwork when one unit was being rebuilt to the #1508 and the other was retired.

1b) Someone outside BN or M-K was taking field notes of which engine was which, and got the serial numbers crossed, and because of that error's inclusion in a publication, it keeps showing up on today's online resources/databases.

2) When M-K rebuilt which unit to #1508, perhaps a new plate was installed, and it was at that time that an improper serial number was stamped.

Personally, I'm thinking that the #1508 is indeed the former #726, and that the #727 was retired in 1994. Anyone else have thoughts or insight on this?

Order #5565, April 1958, 5 units, GN #728-#732, serials #24102-#24106:

#729 to BN #1802, to BNSF #1607:1, retired 11/00 and later sold to J.D. Heiskell Co. (JDHX). What's confusing is that Heiskell does/did have 2 ex-BN GP9's, the other is NP #232/BN #1858/BNSF #1617. Both units retained the BNSF road numbers, but have 1886, the year of the company's founding, painted on the cab. Hence, both Ringnalda and The Diesel Shop list that the #729 became JDHX #1886. In addition, Diesel Shop lists that the "#1886" is ex-BNSF #1807; this number seems to be a combination of the correct BN #1802 and BNSF #1607. The unit does have the correct serial for #729, #24103, listed. The second GP9, nee-NP #232, is not listed, so is likely retired, although with the proper road number confusion this may not be the case. Both units were last photographed in 4/07 in Pixley, CA. However, on another photo of the #1607 (with #1617 behind it), "Fotaug Rafee" commented that "this unit was scrapped circa March/April 2009". Does anybody know which one of the 2 was scrapped? Thanks in advance!

#730 to BN #1803, retired 4/87 and sold 8/87 to Wilson RY Corp., later resold to Louis Dreyfus Corp. (as #2010?), Seattle, later resold sometime before 9/95 to Austin & Northwestern (AUNW) #171, ran on the Dallas, Garland & Northeastern RR (DGNO), resold sometime between 9/95 and 10/08 to Western Rail Road Co. (WRRC), lastest photo 11/14 at Cemex plant in New Braunfels, TX. However, in the "notes" line for WRRC #171 on RR Picture Archives, is written "Wilson Railway Corp.", so is this a case of mis-identified reporting mark users?

Order #8066, August 1959, 2 units, GN #733-#734, serials #25467-#25468:

The serials for these 2 units are in reverse, therefore the #734 was #25467 and the #733 was #25468. Similar to the 5 units in order #7562, these 2 GP9m's (EMD classification) were rebuilt from F3's; the #733 from F3B #432C and the #734 from F3A #432D.

#734 to BN #1807, retired 10/86 and sold 1/87 to Dakota & Iowa RR Co. (DAIR) #21, resold sometime between 9/12 and 8/13 to Northern Plains RR Inc. (NPR) #507, latest photo 8/13 in Minneapolis.

I wouldn't count on using the Diesel Shop as a reliable source.

For example, the 1685 is still listed as "in use on the BNSF Manitoba line in Canada". Yet this fairly well known unit that was nicknamed "Two Spot", built for the Midland Railway as their #2 in 1957 and well known for carrying her original number and no logo on her until April 1999 when BNSF repainted her and renumbered her, was donated over five years ago to the Prairie Dog Central Railway. But active on BNSF's roster she continues to be listed.

Another blunder was listing the Beep, easily the most well known unit on the BNSF roster at the time of her retirement, for years after her donation to a museum. If they can't get even get the status of notable locomotives correct, it doesn't say much for their accuracy on the thousands that have no notoriety.

While hopefully that GP9B is still out there earning her keep for BNSF, I wouldn't count on it.

Since the thread is active again:

MEC GP7 #571. Rebuilt 1985 with chopped nose, dynamic brakes, a huge cab and renumbered 471. Purchased by CDOT in 1990 and repainted into McGinnis scheme. Major rebuild by Amtrak in 1994 including 645E, upgraded electricals & controls. Purchased by ORHS in 2000, still in service. You can almost call it a GP7-1 with party cab.

Les

Two great pics of this series of CNW boxcar.

CNW 5 40' Boxcar
Number Series: CNW 1-625
Builder: Pullman-Standard
Acquired: New 1953
1953. Pullman-Standard Photo.

CNW 7 40' Boxcar
Number Series: CNW 1-625
Builder: Pullman-Standard
Acquired: New 1953
1953. Pullman-Standard Photo.
(Note that stenciled lettering from the factory is not perfect. Edges are soft and there is overspray.)

Well anyway, I'm glad HVRM got this car. I noticed it's already been given a coat of primer too. That's good. Looking back at the discussion on the IRM blog about acquiring car CNW 284, the enthusiasm seemed luke-warm about acquiring it or one of the other two remaining C&NW cars at Lawrence Foods. "There has been little member support or other donations to acquire this for IRM." After HVRM got #284, the IRM project leader asked if someone wanted to take over the project: "If someone comes forward to do the work to try to acquire one of the remaining two cars, I can help and explain the next steps." Apparently, no one was interested enough to come forward.
http://www2.irm.org/blogs/archives/511- ... -2009.html

So the outcome has been good, because IRM already has plenty of freight cars needing attention, and HVRM is able to give CNW 284 the attention it needs right away.

Thanks for the photo links to the C&NW 1-625 series of PS-1 boxcars. Those are great! The one photo shows the "Route of the 400 Streamliners" lettering on one side of the car and the second shot shows the "Overland Route" on the other side. Wish your report that the car had been repainted in primer was correct, but that hasn't occurred yet (unless it happened in the last two weeks). The car did get some steel work done after it was received, to patch a few rust holes at the top of one end, and someone put a "built at Pullman-Standard in Michigan City, Indiana" stencil on one side of the car, but it is still a project that needs to get done. One of these days!

A bit of selective quotation there. I much prefer the quote from that same blog page that says
Quote:
CNW 284

At the November Board meeting the potential acquisition of this car was APPROVED! Many of you have pledged donations to support the project, and now is the time to send those in to fund designated R 284. We are counting on you. The CNWHS (historical society) is stepping forward and backing this project. THANKS!!

Nick Kallas has a handshake agreement from Mr. Lou Lawrence of Lawrence Foods that the car is ours. So, as soon as funds are on hand, we can proceed with spending commitments to get this car to Union.

Hi Jeff -

Well, if CNWHS is backing the project (preservation of boxcar CNW #284), the car is at HVRM and their support of its restoration would certainly be welcome.

Additional info for GN GP7 #600/BN #1500:1/FW&D #700/BN #1670, now FarmRail #8255. Under FMRC ownership, this unit, which was rebuilt at an unknown date with a chopped nose, is listed by both RR Picture Archives and The Diesel Shop as a GP10. Regarding early Geeps on the FMRC roster of Hill Road heritage: besides #8255, #1555 (now sold), and #8253 (listed below), FarmRail also rosters #8252 Seneca, which according to The Diesel Shop, was built as GN #603, to BN #1503:1/FW&D #703/BN #1673, and like the #600, Ringnalda lists that the #603 was retired 5/83 and sold 6/83 to Iowa RR. However, RR Picture Archives lists that #8252 is nee-CB&Q GP9 #282, to BN #1967, which was retired in 3/87. Like #8253 and #8255, #8252 was rebuilt with a chopped nose and is listed as a GP10; #1555 also received a chopped nose, but is still listed as a GP7. Can anyone confirm the history data for #8252 either way? Thanks in advance!

Additional info for GN GP9 #670/BN #1822/CBRY #205: it was reportedly sold to Foster Townsend Rail Logistics (FTRL/FTRX) as #205, along with GP9's #206 and #207, both nee-NP (listed below). With this sale, and the scrapping of #204 (ex-BN #1704, nee-NP #204), this leaves one GP9 on the Copper Basin roster: #208, which is nee-CB&Q (this unit will be listed in a later post). However, FTRL/FTRX #205 is ex-NCCX GP9 #6400, exx-BN #1975, nee-SP&S #150.

Additional info for GN GP9 #730/BN #1803/Wilson RY Corp.: it was not resold to Louis Dreyfus Corp. as LDCX #2010. The #2010 is the nee-NP #215, which is listed below.

NP Survivors, Continued:

GP9 Survivors, Part One:

Order #5342, June 1954, 4 units, NP #200-#203, serials #19544-#19547:

#202 to BN #1702, rebuilt with chopped nose*, to BNSF #1600:1, main generator failed sometime after 3/04 (comment by James Fisher), moved to CEECO (Tacoma, WA) sometime before 5/08, still in Tacoma as of 8/10, restenciled to GN #1600 circa 2010*, last photo 3/13 in Albia, IA. No current info.

*Comment by Gary Brugger: The #1702 "spent a winter underwater when assigned to the Camas Prairie, I think in the early/mid 1970's. It was hauled out in the spring and rebuilt with its chopped nose."

#203 to BN #1703, rebuilt 12/92 by M-K to c-n GP28M #1528:2, to BNSF #1528, stenciled as GP28M-2, latest photo 4/15 in Hodgkins, IL.

Order #5385, February 1955, 10 units, NP #204-#213, serials #20336-#20345:

#206 to BN #1706, rebuilt 3/93 by M-K to c-n GP28P #1590:2 to BNSF #1590:1. Current status unknown, last photo 12/10 in Minot, ND, could have been renumbered to #1540, but no photos with this number on RR Picture Archives; The Diesel Shop does have a #1540 listed, but not the serial #/history.

#209 to BN #1709, rebuilt 4/93 by M-K to c-n GP28P #1599:2 to BNSF #1599:1, to #1549, stenciled GP28P-2, latest photo 10/15 in Camanche, IA.

#210 to BN #1710, retired 10/87 and subsequently sold to MRL #109, listed on The Diesel Shop as retired, however, the most recent photo was taken last month in the yard in Helena; it doesn't appear to be in a deadline. Has the #109 been placed back into service?

#211 to BN #1711, to BNSF #1602:1, retired at an unknown date and subsequently sold to South Orient (SO) #103:2. #103:1 was a GP7 built in 1950 as NYC #5601, which was photographed in the scrap line in Fort Worth in 3/03. The #103:2 was first photographed in 3/08 on display at the RY Museum of San Angelo, TX, which is located at the KCM&ORY of Texas station, latest photo 6/13. South Orient had/has a fleet of GP7's and GP9's, which besides the #103:2, are of NYC, C&NW, Frisco, and Rio Grande origin.

Order #5386, March 1955, 4 units, NP #214-#217, serials #20346-#20349:

#215 to BN #1841, to BNSF #1615:1, rebuilt at unknown date with chopped nose, retired and subsequently sold sometime before 4/10 to LDCX #2010 and named The Judy Bradley, assigned to the Port of Seattle's grain terminal in Seattle, last photo 11/11. I just saw the #2010 last week (sorry, no pictures).

Order #5384, June and August 1955, 23 units, NP #218-#240, serials #20305-#20319, #20370-#20374, and #20641-#20643:

#218-#237 were built in June and #238-#240 were built in August. #218-#232 were serials #20305-#20319, #233-#237 were serials #20370-#20374, and #238-#240 were serials #20641-#20643.

#223 to BN #1849 retired 7/83 and sold before 6/84 to Green Mountain RR (GMRC), resold sometime between 7/87 and 8/97 to Belvidere & Delaware River Valley (BDRV), last photo 7/13 in Fairless Hills, PA, listed on The Diesel Shop as "active lease".

#224 to BN #1850 retired 1/87 and subsequently sold to FarmRail RR (FMRC) #8253 and named Kickapoo, but with GNBC reporting marks, for Grainbelt Corp., rebuilt at unknown date with chopped nose (listed on both RR Picture Archives and The Diesel Shop as GP10), latest photo 4/14 in Clinton, OK.

#225 to BN #1851, rebuilt 1/93 by M-K to c-n GP28M #1533:2, to BNSF #1533, stenciled GP28-2, latest photo 8/15 in Greybull, WY.

#228 to BN #1854, to BNSF #1616:1, retired and subsequently sold sometime before 6/08 to Western Rail Inc. (WRIX), leased to Bio-Energy Products (BEPX) for use at their ethanol plant in Wood River, NE, latest photo 2/15.

#229 to BN #1855, retired 7/83 and subsequently sold to Georgia Central RY (GC) #4929, reassigned sometime between 3/06 and 6/09 by RailAmerica to the Port of Galveston, TX, last photo 11/11. No current info.

#232 to BN #1858, to BNSF #1617:1, retired at unknown date and subsequently sold sometime before 9/01 to Kruse Grain (OHK), seen at that time at the Locomotive Rebuild Center (Richland, WA), resold sometime before 11/02 to J.D. Heiskell Co. (JDHX), last photo 7/12 in Pixley, CA. The photos of #1617 from 2010-2012 confirm that it was the #1607 (nee-GN #729) which was scrapped in Spring 2009.

#234 to BN #1860, rebuilt 1/93 by M-K to c-n GP28M* #1535:2, to BNSF GP28M #1535, last photo 8/13 in Joplin, MO.

*BN #1535:2 is mis-listed on RR Picture Archives as a GP39V.

#235 to BN #1861, to BNSF #1618:1, retired and subsequently sold for scrap sometime before 6/03 to Adams Steel (Anaheim, CA); however, comment by Dave Brotheridge indicates that this engine had yet to be scrapped as of 4/14. Is this engine still intact, or has it since been turned into razor blades? Thanks in advance!

#237 to BN #1863, lettered for National Academy of RR Sciences, to BNSF #1619:1, restenciled GN circa 2010, last photo 10/14 in Silvis, IL.

#254 to BN #1877, to BNSF #1622:1, rebuilt at unknown date with chopped nose, retired sometime before 10/07 and subsequently sold to LDCX #2012, assigned to elevator in Galena Park, TX, last photo 4/13.

#255 to BN #1878, rebuilt 1/93 by M-K to c-n GP28M #1534:2, to BNSF #1534, stenciled GP28-2M, latest photo 4/15 in Oklahoma City.

#256 to BN #1879, retired 7/83 and sold before 7/85 to Clarendon & Pittsford (CLP) #752 and named Harold T. Filskov, resold sometime before 6/96 to Black River & Western, resold* sometime between 6/13 and 12/13 to Belvidere & Delaware RR.

*Was the #752 actually sold, or is it under lease to the Bel-Del? Thanks in advance!

#258 to BN #1881, retired 7/86 and subsequently sold at unknown date to DAIR #24, latest photo 7/14 in Sioux Falls. Dakota & Iowa acquired #21 (nee-GN #734) from BN 1/87; and The Diesel Shop lists that their other 2 ex-BN, nee-NP GP9's, #22 and #23 (nee-#284 and #301), were acquired from PREX and NREX respectively. Was the #24 acquired direct from BN or from a leasing company, and if so, when? Thanks in advance!

#259 to BN #1882, retired 8/91 and subsequently sold at unknown date to North Star Steel Arizona, resold sometime before 7/05 to IRLX #1104 (IRLX is listed as Western RR Supply, however, the engine was painted for Wilmer Rail Services), resold sometime between 5/07 and 6/08 to TransiTech Inc. (TANX) #1714 and leased to Southwest Landmark elevator in South Charleston, OH, rebuilt at unknown date with chopped nose, listed as both GP8 and GP9, latest photo 3/14. First photo of IRLX #1104 taken 7/05 in Iona, TX, identifies it as a nee-Santa Fe GP7u, specifically AT&SF GP7 #2747 (built 8/52), rebuilt 4/78 to chopped-nose GP7u #2117, to BNSF #1325, to JTPX. In actuality, the #1325 is now Grand Canyon #1105. Given the number, was the #1105 also formerly owned by North Star Steel? Thanks in advance!

Rainier,

As of this past Friday, BNSF 1500 & 1501 are both in service at Eola yard. 1501 has been assigned to Eola for years. It was kind of a nice surprise to see '00 and '01 sitting next to each other on Friday.
