Funny you mention.....she did have a cigarette lighter on her back in '85. Don't know if it is still there or not.

LOL it appears to have been removed during the recent cab rebuild. OSHA says we can't smoke in the cab of steam locomotives, since they're an "enclosed space." ;-) I still haven't figured out if it's an OSHA violation if I forget to crack the blower before I open the firedoor...

Call it a "power point." It would be a place to plug in your GPS or laptop.

If you are in need of a GPS on a locomotive, you'd best reconsider your vocation, your work environment, or both......

I thought the GPS tracking feature that was offered this year on the 765 was truly ground-breaking. It proved invaluable to those who wanted to chase in a safe manner. I hope they consider something similar for this and other engines as well.

LOL! Well hopefully they figure out that it's vital to do so....perhaps give them a "personal" demonstration?

And the excitement continues to build...
...I had to reach out to google and look up every application of the Worthington feed water heater...so that I could mentally think about how the engine will look when ready. No doubt that there will be mechanical gains made by all the new upgrades...TOUGH!

Way OT, but actually, GPS would be pretty handy if you were trying to have a computer-fired coal burner like the ACE 3000. This would allow your "fireman" to anticipate grades and stops and adjust the firing rate and water supply to suit.

With that in mind, I would think a GPS would be handy for any fireman.

I've yet to see a GPS unit that tells me to "add more coal", "add more water" or "take the siding 500 feet ahead"......

On the other hand, I have personally driven GPS programs into conniptions when chasing trains, especially when driving/riding Jeeps "cross-country" over roads that may or may not exist yet while chasing the Grand Canyon, Apache, and Verde Canyon Railroads...... We keep joking that the winner is the one that turns the voice from "Off route--recalculating..." to "WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!?"
