I've been posting some footage from White Pass & Yukon mostly from 2015 and 2016 that I was able to shoot on my days off as a brakeman or conductor. I'm currently working on a series that will illustrate the morning til the afternoon, but featuring the trip up to Fraser in the cab of the 73 and partway back, then all the switching that happens at noon getting the trains relined to run up the hill again.

The railroad got away from the fleets of trains operating with 4-6 departures at once and started offering staggered departure times by utilizing a new siding that will eventually become a second mainline for the first five miles out of Skagway, an expanded siding at Glacier, and a loop at White Pass which shaved nearly an hour of turnaround time for a train to make a round trip. In 2019 all of those infrastructure changes were implemented, so the video I'm posting from 2015 is a bit of a time capsule now. Anyway, here's the first two parts for any who are interested. The editing is nearly done for the trip between Rocky Point and Glacier and I hope to have it posted this weekend.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the links to your videos and for taking them. Got a White Pass question that you might know the answer to. What was the purpose for the red Gyralites on the 101 class Alcos? Even in older videos of them hauling freight, I have never seen them turned on. I am going to assume it was if a unit was pushing it would be used as a rear of train marker light, but I have never seen proof of that in picture or video form. Looking forward to more of your videos. Mike
