A friend of mine who subscribes to Trains says the current issue mentions that 4014 is coming to the Pac NW in 2020
Anyone know more on the details? I'm for sure gonna take some time off if it is coming to these parts...

I've heard some rumors about it, but nothing much beyond that.

I know this for sure, however: 4014 will run over the Moffat Route sometime this year. Seems to suggest that a PNW tour is in the works.

Yeah, turns out, the mention of it in Trains was just that, mentioning a long-standing rumor. Just saw it myself over the weekend.
Dang.

Well, looks like it's more than just a rumor. Go to 8:22 on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XND3jQBqkYY

Hmmm. It's not like Ed himself is saying that, but it sounds good to hear.
There's been a lot of speculation here on if 4014 could actually get to Portland. I have no clue why it couldn't, as the tunnels should be high enough and the curves broad enough as 3985 and 844 have both been as far as Albina Yard in Portland (and 844 has gone well north of Seattle).

I thought I read that there would be issues with a tunnel west of Huntington, OR, but I don't know if that's true. I suppose we'll just have to wait for the schedule.

I've heard that the current Trains magazine says the 4014 is coming to the Pac NW after all, but you can attach whatever value to that you wish.
Once the UP announces it, then I'll get excited and start asking for time off to chase.
Sadly, most of these trips haven't allowed for paying passengers. I'd pay a pretty penny to be able to say I rode behind a UP 4000 under steam...

During his presentation today, Ed apparently said that they'll be running 4014 up there in August.

Wow. Just wow.
I'd assume that means the Columbia gorge as 3985 came up through there several years back (but only got as far as Albina yard in Portland). Of course I'd love to see it coming up north of Portland, along the Puget Sound and into Seattle. But Portland is the most likely destination.
That said, 4014 went to some places to the southeast of Cheyenne last year that I'd never have thought a 4000 could tread.
As soon as any dates are announced, I'll immediately be begging my employer for time off. If they offer to sell tickets to ride, I'll then be begging my wife for that, too.
It would be worth some cash to me, to later be able to say I rode behind a 4000 under steam!

Not unexpected whatsoever, but it looks like it'll be next year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5T3hRgefsc
