Travis Dewitz recently traveled to the Chinese province of Xinjiang to photograph the last remaining steam locomotives. It was a long distance journey to a time and a place where fire and steam still rule.

When I try to view this article, I get this message:

Access denied. Your IP address is blacklisted. If you feel this is in error please contact your hosting provider's abuse department.

I'm using a computer at work at a Fortune 500 company in the United States. I sincerely doubt that it makes any sense to block my access. Since I'm looking at the website for recreation during my lunch hour, I won't be bringing this issue to the attention of our Tech support.

I hope that this is actually something wrong on the server side. I've enjoyed reading the fine articles on the Trackside Photographer, and I will miss reading them on my lunch hour.

Mark -

I'll go into geek mode here....

Blacklisting an IP address usually occurs after a reported large amount of spam came from mail servers at that address. A lot of the time, it's a shared server and you can be collateral damage due to someone else's mischief. The odd thing here is that mail servers are generally separate from web servers (unless the web server has been compromised for illicit purposes). Most companies allow safe, casual use of their internet connection so check your employee handbook - your IT dept. should appreciate knowing about being blacklisted and will take steps to get it rectified.

All that said, the problem is likely at your company's internet service provider or hosting provider if they don't run their own servers.
