Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern operates, among other lines, a 45-mile branch between its home base in Utica, NY, north to Lyons Falls.
Presently, there are two customers on the line, both in Boonville, 35 miles from Utica. The line is also used to store cars in the otherwise unused 10-mile stretch of tracks between Boonville-Lyons Falls. Additionally, the Adirondack Scenic Railroad has trackage rights Utica-Snow Jct (Remsen, 23 miles from Utica).
On Feb 19th, a crew ran up to Boonville to switch-out a covered hopper from Bailey's Boonville Mill and to spot a load.
It had been several weeks since the last run north and a good amount of snow and ice accumulated on the rails in the meantime. MA&N No. 805, an Alco C425, puts on a great show as she "busts drifts" on her way to Boonville. M of W workers were also busy clearing crossings and some of the ROW in the Village of Boonville.
