Here is a link to a photo of the "Yonah". It was my favorite of the three locomotives and was a 2-6-2 (non-superheated IIRC)

The brown "car" behind it was the baggage coach dismal.

And here she is after leaving Stone Mountain RR https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... oramio.jpg

Now a rare pic of 750 on the stone mountain RR:

And a tube of the Texas from back in the 60's:

Very cool photos Tim! Thanks for sharing.

I never got to see Steam at Stone Mountain. I was lucky enough to get to ride behind the Six Flags Atlanta engines a few times though.

#750 is just a cool engine. I've only seen her in the museum, but I really hope she gets to run again one day.

When those locos from Louisiana were brought up here the General 2 was operating and ran out the GA RR with the combine and a coach. My dad has some slides of it at Union Station in Atlanta. It was ceremoniously run from downtown out to the town of Stone Mountain and then trucked over to the Park. A friend of my father's paced the move and we may actually have 8 mm movie film of that event. Goodness I'm referencing an event that happened over 56 years ago! I'll see what I can dig up.

addendum:
I contact my dad and he confirmed that the first move of the Stone Mountain RR equipment was a run from Atlanta's Union Station to Stone Mountain where heavy equipment was waiting to move it to the park. He paced it and believes this was 1962. The initial operations were limited to running from the station by the mountain hiking path to the mall area in front of the carving. This explains the 2 stations. The Smaller one near the path hikers use to climb the mountain was the only station on the RR until the RR loop was finished and main station was built nearer the carving. We are now looking for the pictures taken by a friend of my Dad's of the consist at Union Station. I remember seeing the photos and seem to recall that the locomotive was the smaller General II because the cab and tender were light green.

The odd and little known loco that was at the park was the IC RR 0-8-0 3525. It's in Tanglewood Park, Clemmons, NC. Dressed up as SRR 1894. It never operated and was displayed near the main depot. Based on memory I'd say it left the park around 1974.

Being from the Winston-Salem Area, I've seen the 1894/3525 more than a few times. I'm considering restoring it to operation as a first restoration project if it's feasible.

I like the spirit! However, you should really volunteer with a steam group before you start pointing at locomotives and saying "let's bring 'er back!" They are a labor of love, money, sweat, money, tears, and money.

IC RR 0-8-0 3525 actually DID run at Stone Mountain. Click on the link and then select the photo album tab at the bottom for a vintage Jim Boyd photo: http://steamlocomotive.info/vlocomotive.cfm?Display=794

Found this on YT - New GA RR train on the loop.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H_mVVjvUwQ

Just adding a bit. In the YT, the locomotives were the E-8 set. on the lead was the E-8 6902 that the New GA got from NJ Transit in 1988. Its NJ Transit No. was 4251. New Ga renumbered it to go along with former Southern RR E-8 6901. 6901 was the pusher in this clip. The loco roster on the New GA featured the 2 pacifics 750 and 290, then 2 Es, and 2 FP-7s from the Southern RR (IIRC 3498 and 3499). One of which is part of the current Stone Mountain RR roster.
