I've noticed several train themed TV commercials over the past couple of years (my wife says I pay more attention to them than the show itself). Here are a few I found interesting.

The first one is set in Philadelphia's 30th Street Station and is for a consulting firm. The now-obsolete Solari board is shown as well as the magnificent architecture of the building.

Next is a Mountain Dew commercial I saw just the other night. Doesn't everyone ride on the top of a passenger car in the winter?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJT0UQ0nr9c

The next Geico commercial tries to answer the question, "Why did the chicken cross the track?".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z38evlC-EiY

Dow had a commercial for a "quiet train"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-ovq79_VEc

And finally a Suburu commercial that caused quite a stir among the railfan community when it first aired. Some accused the car company of promoting dangerous behavior but others felt it was just a harmless daydream not meant to be actually imitated. There were two versions of this commercial, a shortened 30 second one and this full 60 second version.

Feel free to add any others you may be aware of.

If we want to go retro, we can ride on the Gravy Train.

For a surreal touch, we can go to a telephone ad that was clearly inspired by Dr. Seuss:

I think this one was filmed at Travel Town as well (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). Never really thought of a rail museum as a place for meeting prospective dates.

Just saw this one for McDonalds tonight. "Mom" works for a nondescript railroad wearing a nondescript uniform.

No mistaking those platform canopies, though--that's Los Angeles Union Station.

I saw a new one tonight. The scene at the end features two trainsets of single-level pre-AMTRAK passenger cars. The one on the right is a dome car. Anyone know where this was filmed and who owns the passenger equipment?

In January of 1989, #1223 and #7002 double headed up to Harrisburg for a week to film this commercial (starring Bryan Cranston no less), and neither one or the station even made the cut! The filming was all done at night, to not interfere with the station's normal operations, and we did shot after shot of the two engines, both pulling in and/or out at the same time on different tracks in opposite directions.

The going away shot at the end was done on our own Cherry Hill curve.

BTW, this was #7002's last operation prior to being returned to the RRMPA.

Kelly,

While on that subject, do you recall the date of 1223's final steaming as well? I believe it may have been in the fall of that same year, no? Neat photos BTW.

Best,
DC

Yes, October of 1989 IIRC.

Check out the stunt driving in this incredible ad for the Fiat 127 from 1971.

I keep hoping that some day I'll come across the Audi Quattro "Rides like it's on rails" commercial we filmed back in the early 1980's. So far I've not been able to find a digital copy.
