Last summer four of us made a cross-country trip on AMTRAK from Cumberland, MD to California and back. While traveling in CA by train, there appeared to be homeless camps set up along the tracks a short distance away from station stops. While leaving on the California Zephyr, I tried taking a photo of one of the camps. This dwelling appears to be a tarp draped over something to become a makeshift tent along with the usual discarded trash. The mild physical climate as well as the political climate in CA is conducive to making the Golden State a homeless Mecca.

Have you ever been in Camden? They live in camps along the berms of the on/off ramps and wander around like zombies.

I was in Camden maybe 15 years ago or so, right after the River Line opened. I don't remember seeing any homeless then, just a couple panhandlers. Camden would have to really be something to top Orange County, CA.
