On August 27th, I rode in Car No. 76 on a ten-mile run at Steamtown. It was a blast! Here's a six-minute video I took showing views from the run, including going through a 4750 foot tunnel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EhvjJufqVY Also, a few photos.

For those of you who will be visiting Steamtown for Railfest, make sure you check out Third Avenue Railway 651 on display in the trolley museum. The restored car body was hauled up to Scranton this past Spring and work is currently underway on the last phase of restoration, her trucks. From the ECTMA.org site: Quote: Car #651/#24 is the carbody of one of fifty Brill 12-bench open trolleys built in 1908 for the Third Avenue Railway Co. of New York City. Following its heyday in New York as #651, it was sold second-hand to Five Mile Beach of Wildwood, N.J., where it was renumbered #24 and ran in seasonal service until 1945. The carbody was retrieved years later and major restoration has been underway, including obtaining the last known "Eureka"-style maximum-traction trucks from Lisbon, Portugal. |
