I looked up Lou Mitchell's when I visited Chicago in 2013. I learned about it in a book for travelers following Route 66. Apparently it's the nearest restaurant to the "Zero Milepost" of the Mother Road, and it is indeed a good place for breakfast or lunch.

Brings back memories to see that picture. I used to work across the street for a stationery retailer. We would take coffee breaks at Mitchell's and enjoy our brew which was served with heavy (whipping) cream. You could float the cream on top of the coffee and drink through it. This was called Boston style, but I have no idea what Boston had to do with it.
