Approx dimensions: 340" L (not including couplers) x 113" W x 128" H.

Agency logos will be removed or painted over prior to buyer pickup.

Buyer is responsible for all aspects of removal. Seller will provide no assistance.

We do not have service records. Buyers are encouraged to inspect all merchandise before bidding. WMATA employees are prohibited from purchasing Metro surplus property, either directly or indirectly through other parties, regardless of the method of sale.


BONUS: Poke far enough, and you can download a PDF of the appropriate 1949 30-pagem Alco-GE 44-tonner operator's manual!

According to online sources, this is GE c/n 31876, built Feb. 1953 as US Air Force 1238, later acquired as WMATA 865, rebuilt and renumbered as L002.

It is rumored that a loco collector on the Walkersville Southern is thus far the first/only bid.......

Sold for $32,000 plus 6% sales tax and auction premium, total $38,160.

Anyone want to admit buying it?

It's kind of interesting....
It rather highly modified....
They cut down the cab, newer engines, with reduction boxes for the generators....
That govt operation out a pile of money into it....
Would probably make a nice little motor for a small tourist operation....
