-sorry if this has been shared here somewhere else--I have NO interested in this, just sharing/FYI

The former Erie Coke (Erie, PA) plant is shut down and site being cleaned up.

The plant's SW1200 (am told Ex-Beth Steel/South Buff, exx-GTW) is up for sale, sale managed by local scrap yard (Andrew Lincoln @ Lincoln Metals in Erie). Listed on Facebook Marketplace. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 905167881/

Facebook/Railfan blabber reports price is down to $45k from original $85k and if not sold unit is slated for cut up soon. Personally, I don't know more than that.

Again-- I have no dog in this fight, just sharing what I have seen/read/heard.

If this is your kind of thing--Good Luck!

With scrap at $100 a ton, it's only worth around $12,500 in the back of a dumpster. I wish they could be more realistic with their pricing.

Thanks for sharing though.

And after reading the facebook "Ahead of the Torch" posts about this unit, apparently all of the wheels are horribly worn and that would prevent this locomotive from being transported by rail. And the lack of alignment control couplers are also an issue....

Our resident diesel mechanic says that in reality, with the labor involved in scrapping a diesel, they will be out of pocket by the time it is gone if they scrap it. Consider that when making an offer.
