Post subject:  WANTED meter shunt

I am looking for a meter shunt to go with a EMD ammeter (EMD part #8402426).

This is going to go into a locomotive that doesn't have a ammeter for the traction motors, its basically an SW1.

Try eBay. I have seen many shunts listed. First find out the rating of your meter, typically 50 millivolts, and then find a 50 mv shunt that will work with your meter.

is this a locomotive that never, ever had an ammeter? If so, you'll need to cut into the traction
motor circuit someplace to install the meter shunt. Pick a meter with a full-scale reading that
makes sense for the HP rating of your locomotive. Pick a shunt with a corresponding FS reading
(e.g. 2000A) and, as the other poster says, usually a 50mV full-scale drop (match it to the
amp meter, the mV F.S. should be written in fine print near the bottom of the scale)
