Post subject:  Durango and Silverton Machinist and Mechanic positions

The Durango and Silverton Railroad has two full-time, year around mechanical positions currently available.

1) The first position is a Machinist in the locomotive shop, duties include machining and manufacture of all manner of parts for the steam and diesel locomotives. Some of the specific jobs can include driver machining, wheel work, valve motion work, driver boxes, spring rigging, cab valve and appliance work just to name a few things. Additional duties can include general steam maintenance and repair as well as general steam engine mechanic work. Prior manual machining and or steam experience is very helpful and will receive preference however it is not necessary.

2) The second position is a mechanic position that is focused on maintaining and rebuilding track maintenance equipment and diesel locomotives. Equipment includes Fairmont motor cars, Harsco tamers and regulators and Pettibone speed swings. Additionally we have 4 diesel locomotives with Cummings and Alco prime movers. Experience with both diesel and gas engines is a must. Basic industrial electrical and hydraulic knowledge is a plus.

Both positions are year around full-time positions. Wages are dependent upon experience and include health benefits, an excellent time off package, and company matched 401k eligibility. If interested please submit resumes to
bburton@durangotrain.com
For serious candidates I can be reached at rbabcock@durangotrain.com to answer additional questions or specifics on the positions.

These positions certainly offer a challenging opportunity to be part of a fast paced, and rewarding, year around steam railroad experience.
