At Norfolk Southern's Roanoke shops on August 17th, Norfolk Southern will be auctioning off approximately 70 high-hood GP38-2's, a pair of MP15s a Railpower RP20CD hybrid assembled by NS, about 100 lots of locomotive parts.....

......... and the five coaches NS rebuilt for steam excursion service.

These five cars were built for the Chesapeake & Ohio in 1950 or so, then were rebuilt for Pittsburgh's PATrain commuter service in the 1970s/1980s, then went to Connecticut DOT for its passenger services. From there, they were stored then sold to NS, which rebuilt them for additional coach service for its 21st Century Steam program.

The auction notes that seats are being sold separate from the coaches; it is unclear at this time if these are the CDOT/PATrain commuter seats removed from the cars during rebuild or the seats last used in the cars in NS service.

Online bidding is available. ... e-auction/

Blackmon Auctions will host a dinner for all buyers that have made the trip to the auction. Please contact Thomas Blackmon at 501-352-4702 for more information and to confirm your attendance.

The auction location will be at a conference room at 240 Material Yard Road in Roanoke, Virginia. We will have our auction trailer set up next to that room so look for the Blackmon Auction Office and that will be the location for the auction on August 17th.

Inspection of Equipment:

*IMPORTANT* the locomotives will be lined up in the Norfolk Southern yard along one track and inspection will be by appointment only. There will not be any exceptions because you have to have a NS representative let you into the yard. The inspection will be August 14th to the 16th, 2017 ONLY. No other times will be allowed. Please contact Thomas Blackmon to schedule an appointment to inspect. The office check in for inspection will be at 101 21st Street SW, Roanoke, Virginia.
