posted on behalf of Carl Franz: YOU can operate high-speed, steam passenger trains Ever dream of operating high-speed steam locomotives? You can make it happen by joining the “June, 2008, Ultimate Steam Dream.” Running steam locomotives that are pulling regularly-scheduled passenger trains is one of the most exciting and exhilarating things that a railfan can do! As a student-engineer and student-fireman, you will operate six, high-speed, steam passenger trains with your hands on the throttle, reverser, train brake, whistle and coal shovel. No experience is required, your patient engineer-instructor will guide you through the process. You will also operate and photograph a 2-8-2 standard-gauge freight train and an 0-8-0, 30-inch, narrow-gauge photo freight special. Over 400 miles in the cabs of hard-working locomotives with speeds to 60 mph! Engines operated typically include: 2-8-2, 2-6-2, 4-6-0, 4-6-2 and 2-6-2T. Wolsztyn, Poland, is the only place in the world where you can run high-speed, regular service (non tourist), steam passenger trains. Wolsztyn is a three-hour train ride east of Berlin, Germany. Only a few spaces remain on our June 22-28, 2008 event. The cost, including lodging, is approximately $2,500.00. Meals and airfare are extra.
