I'd like to take a casual survey of what railway museums and others are using to paint the exteriors of the wood cars in their collections. With all of the changes to paint formulations in the 90's owing to new environmental regulations, I'm wondering what products people are currently using and with what degree of success?<p>For wood cars at Orange Empire we are using Dunn-Edwards Syn-Lustro, (colors custom matched) with good results in the durability department, but a lot of difficulty with coverage for deep colors like the yellows and reds (even with tinted primer and repeated coats). <br>

Texas has been adopting California style emissions controls here, so we may be looking at a new paint system very soon. We had been using Coronado Industrial Coatings, high gloss, which was xylene based, but worked wonderfully on both wood and metal. We have since switched to a similar product by Benjamin Moore, which was supposed to have been water based. I have not painted much with the new paint, but it seems to be performing adequately. I understand that the old Binks spray guns are in the process of being outlowed. Better stock up on spare parts now.<br>
