I was at an event today in Chief Logan State Park near Logan, WV. I was not aware that C&O 2755 was on display. I noted what looks like an abandoned railroad grade through the front part of the park, but the engine is some distance from the main state road and entrance.

Can an alert reader share the history of how C&O 2755 was moved to the park? I am also interested in the railroad grade.

Thank you!

Wesley

Wesley - I believe the 2755 was left on the line when the tracks were removed as a permanent display. At least that's what I seem to recall reading. Perhaps someone from the C&O Historical Society can confirm that, or give us the real story!

BTW, most of the 90 C&O's Kanawha 2-8-4's were built by ALCO, with only 20 built by Lima. The 2755 is a Lima engine.

According to The Van Sweringen Berkshires, Eugene L. Huddleston, N.J. International: The 2755 was placed two miles up a coal branch, that was about to be abandoned. Then the tracks were removed shortly thereafter.

Donation occurred in March of 1961.
