From the Roanoke Chapter NRHS:

Quote:
It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of Carl Jensen's passing on Monday, March 25th. Carl was not just a railroader; he was a true aficionado with an unwavering passion for trains and their history. From his dedicated tenure as the manager of the steam program at Norfolk Southern to his post-retirement commitment as a National Representative for the National Railway Historical Society and as a valued Board Member at the Roanoke chapter NRHS, Carl's influence reverberated throughout the railway community.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Jensen family during this difficult time. Carl's legacy in Roanoke and beyond will endure as a testament to his spirit and profound impact on railroading and the history of the Norfolk & Western. He will be dearly missed.

He was 87.

Very sorry to hear this. As a young railfan in the late 80’s I remember you would write directly to Carl Jensen to get the excursion schedule for the year. Writing that letter and the anticipation of checking the mail daily was a Spring ritual almost equivalent to writing to Santa.
