The Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources (SPCRR) would like to invite those of you in the San Francisco Bay area to join us for a railroad history program at Ardenwood in the Granary December 17th. The program will be presented by author Bruce MacGregor and illustrator Curtis Ferrington entitled "The Birth of California Narrow Gauge and the Art of Curtis Ferrington... a look at Carter Brothers through a Pentium Processor." Bruce's new book on the history of first 6 years of California's narrow gauge is due out in December 2000, and will feature Curtis' incredible artwork
Also, we will be holding our annual elections and have a discussion on activities and events you would like to see the group do next year (bring your ideas!).
The following day (December 18) will be a workday. We will be straightening out the collection in the Corp. Yard, so if you've ever been curious to see the hidden treasures out there, (which include the Carter Brothers 1st boxcar, built in 1874, our 1886 Hammond horse car, complete with builder's stencil) and the remains of a Carter standard gauge disconnect log car. Be sure to join us.
Dates & Times:
General Meeting: Friday December 17, 7 p.m.
Work Day: Saturday, December 18, 10 am to 5 p.m.
Some "special circumstances" and needs for the workday on the 18th:
1) Bring gloves, long sleeves and full length pants.
2) Drinking water, coffee and a snack would be handy (corp. yard is a
ways from facilities).
3) Please check that your tetanus shots are up-to-date! (yes, there are
lots of rusty things -- I already got to spend one evening at the Kaiser
emergency room getting one of these this year!)
For information or directions please E-mail Randy Hees at hees@ix.netcom.com or Rich Hill at rkhill@worldnet.att.net
Randy Hees
Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources (SPCRR)
PO Box 783, Newark CA 94560
A not-for-profit museum specializing in preserving and interpreting the heritage of narrow gauge railroading of the Pacific Coast & equipment built by the Carter Brothers of Newark California.
