My guess is that you did not.

No, not at all, the operative word is funny. I just can't figure out why someone would steal ties (which are not worth a lot for resale yet are very heavy), and was trying to come up with the most far-fetched theory I could. I actually think it might be sabotage also, but probably by someone local who is disgruntled that the railroad even exists.. I'll bet the cops already know who it is, the first person I would look for is someone with abutting land who owns excavators and the like. I don't know of any specific suspect, that's just a generic hunch.

Someone wrote the below.
"Oh I forget.
There is a direct communication channel between NCRy and OCSR.
Sierra #32 Boiler repair and Sunset Timber #1...exchange...
Maybe here go something wrong...?"

Well, ah, don't think the PLA's NCRy has any Sierra #32 nor any geared engines.
They do own one #30 from the Sierra RR.

Yeah I always mingle the 30 and the 32 because the 32 builder photo is in my collection.

If you do not know the #30 #1 deal look here:

...wow it is almost 14 years ago...and nothing happened to #30...

"nor any geared engines"

Think again...

https://www.ncry.org/about/collection/s ... -lumber-5/

P.S. Just a technical reminder. All Diesel-Electric locomotives in NCRy collection are
geared engines too...

How about Pickering #12 a 3-truck shay and Pickering #1, a Heisler?

my not so important thoughts...

@Patricio
You want Sierra #18 to join #12, #32 and Pickering #5. All of them was operational when
acquired by PLA...and the status now? Why not restore them instead looking for a steamer
in the worst condition possible?
And what about the 2 SP Pacifics and the 0-6-0?
The last time I talked with the NCRy about buy one of then 3 geared locomotives in the
1990s...the answer was "there are the core of our collection, will run immediately and
not for sell at any amount".
Then the next 20 years most of activity was go out and buy any diesel electric switcher
you found. And the last 3 years is everything about 1744 because someone find a manifest
who say that lokie run sometimes in Niles Canyon.
And to talk to OCSR is easy for NCRy. The owner of your leased steam locomotive had it
restored by them for a lot of money. So the communication Sunol-Willits-Tillamook is easy.
By the way, why tf did NCRy lease Skookum when they have Clover Valley 2-6-6-2T,
Quincy 2-6-2T and Woodard 2-6-2T running? Are there funds to renew the 1472 when that
days coming?
Maybe some locomotive seller see that like I do...

Oh I forget.
There is a direct communication channel between NCRy and OCSR.
Sierra #32 Boiler repair and Sunset Timber #1...exchange...
Maybe here go something wrong...?

Man, lot to unpack here. In my experience answers to these questions usually exist, whether you know them or not. NCRY seems to be doing just fine. Your narrative paints a picture closer to an axe to grind than anything else.

Where is the locomotive now? All that I know is that it's privately owned, but not in which state

Confusing comments and way off topic but I guess ranting is just freedom of speech which we all enjoy. I'll try not to put the tender before the loco. So ---

Does the NCRY actually WANT it? I don't know.

Will their BOD put that desire in writing? Why should they?

If "you" acquire it, who moves it, at whose expense, and how fast? I'll work that out if I get so lucky as to own it.

Are you offering money or asking for a donation? I am asking is it available and if so how much and who do we pay?

(Remember, this was an estate liquidation. In such cases, "money talks," whether or not you're in what you think is "the cool kids in crowd." From the e mortal words of struther Martin, "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

So as Jack Web once said, "Just the facts."

sure is a lot of babble about the NCRy %32 which does not exist but there is a Sierra RR 30 (a 2-6-2 that now has a different tender) and is boiler is awaiting repair somewhere in Oregon I look forward to having it return to Sunol area and I have donated to that end. However, this thread concerns the #18 Sierra RR (of the Dodge City movie fame). Again my question is where is the 18, who has it? Is it available for donation or for sale? What is the owner's plans for it? As for financing and the movement or sale of that loco-- that can be worked out and negotiated at a parlay. Please just answer the above basic questions and leave the rest for me. Focus fellows just focus.
