Surprised that the Via unit didn't buckle behind the cab. Probably would've been a goner had that happened.

Branson Scenic Railway did a similar transplant in the late 1990's when their former MARC F9PH (originally a B&O F7) was severely damaged when a M&NA freight went through a misaligned switch and collided with Branson's empty tourist train. Ironically the donor was one of 6300's sisters, Via Rail F9 #6530 (a victim I think of Via Rail's cutbacks in 1990, going into storage unlike her rebuilt sisters like the #6300 that went through the FP9ARM program in the 80's).

The 200 was long gone by the time I was at the GSMR. They said it ran well, and was the only loco to ever take 4 loaded grain cars up Red Marble. At the time it had 12 tooth pinions (switcher gearing) under it. 711 and 777 were still there, which were former UP stable mates, although their shopping by the C&NW and the resulting BC engines that caused them to be reclassified as GP7s no doubt aided in their recent demise. I used to have their original UP numbers, but I dont remember for sure. 212 and 217 perhaps.

If I recall correctly the Central of Indiana parted 200 out, and ITM got the carcass for free or next to it. They put it back together with parts and pieces, which is why it has the BC engine in it now. It also has std frieght gearing now, too.

I went looking for 200 back in 2002, when the GP35s were quite emphatically demanding more hanger queen time in Dillsboro. Ended up with the ex SP 1751 and ex T&NO 1755 instead.
Ironically, the only thing wrong with 200 when it was sold from GSMR back in late '90s was a bad traction motor cable. Had I been there at that time it would have never left the smokies. I would have much preferred the GP9 to the 35s. I hope 200 has a good while left in front of it.
