OT but it dawned on me after seeing images of Doyle’s FA and this F3 is that what we of geezerdom once thought were large locos are actually small compared to today’s behemoths. Hmm. Must be gettin’ old or somethin’.

The engine is a stock F3a, having been maintained by the Bangor & Aroostook in perfect operating condition until retirement. I have been told that CPR's shop people have strongly argued to not rebuild her, nor replace the prime mover, etc., as she's a genuine museum piece. Consider her the equivalent of finding a stock 1957 Chevy four-door Belair, under a tarp in your grandfather's barn. The locomotive is fully capable of operation as a historic first generation Diesel.

So let's hope CPKC doesn't do the equivalent of replacing the original engine with a 350 and putting Cragar rims on it, such as what BN and UP did with their "E38s".
