A note of concern: what is the post-tornado condition of Frisco 4-8-2 1529, displayed across from the town hall in Amory?

For those with Google Earth or similar GIS access, I was given these coordinates as the location: (33.9847229, -88.4897021)

We may need to start getting volunteer groups together if there are 'issues'.

I would be interested to hear about 1529's condition as well. I've never been to Amory but my wife's grandfather Charlie Rodgers was an engineer on the Frisco and there is a vague family tradition that associates the engine with him (the details and veracity of this I don't know) so it has some significance.

which of the Frisco 4-8-2s is in the worst shape? Remember seeing the 1527 and thinking it was pretty rough a while back.

From what I can tell, the locomotive is under some kind of canopy in a park. It shouldn't have been severely damaged if that collapsed in on top of it.

I was hoping to get down there (it's only `100 miles from me) but my ICD acted up and put me out of action for a while.

Though I cannot find anything directly about the locomotive, I did find this:

Apparently, people in the city got together for a city-wide worship service on Sunday (two days after the tornado hit) in Frisco Park, right where the 1529 resides. Though the news footage was taken very close to where the locomotive stands, it is conveniently out-of-view in every single shot in the news footage—but I also think it's worth noting how the area surrounding the park looks. The buildings in and around the park all seem to be in good shape, as do the trees in view of the news cameras. (I, at least, would expect to see more signs of damage if the tornado had struck closer to that part of town).

I would guess that the 1529 has suffered little damage, though of course we will need something more conclusive than this to be absolutely sure. But at least there's hope.

(And of course, my thoughts and prayers are with the people out there, after what they're been through...)

I've always been a big fan of this 1500 class in part due to the loudest steam loco I have ever experienced - SLSF 1522.
