Hi Guys;
Getting back on topic, anyone know the latest location of the PA? Also, is someone riding the cab or following the loco from DL?
Thanks - David Notarius

It's quite obvious from GVT's photo updates that Charles Newton, the photographer of all the photo updates to their Facebook page, is accompanying the loco the entire way from Oregon to at least Chicago, most likely by auto/truck as an "expediter" or escort that shadows the movement the entire way, as both another set of eyes and ears for the owner(s) and someone to "ride the crew's posterior" if they try to do something wrong or stupid.

This is not an easy job; I've done it for passenger rolling stock and locomotives being transferred halfway or more across the nation, and there can be a LOT of "hurry up and wait" involved. You can be driving non-stop across several states and then have to cool your heels in a yard for four days, only to have your charge backtrack across town/the state to another yard for three days of thumb-twiddling as crew after crew refuses to touch your "fancy" load. Then you pray that something protruding from a locomotive or a passing train doesn't damage anything on your car/loco (as I watched happen in one Chicago yard and documented for the owner for the insurance claim).

GVT has not (as of this morning) reported an eastbound departure from Clearing Yard on the BRC in Chicago, where the loco is supposed to proceed on NS over the former NKP............

That placard was pretty useless.

First of all, you're assuming the typical T&E crew even knows what a "self guarded frog" is to start with. They probably know the term "frog", if you're lucky. Can they tell them apart? That's unlikely.

Secondly, let's say they know what they are. Do you think they know where they are? I do extensive work for Tacoma Rail. We've installed many of the turnouts. Even I can't tell you which ones are self guarded off the top of my head.

Third, even if they find one, then what? There's not usually another route they can take to go around. Maybe in the yards, sometimes. Aside from that, you're out of luck.

The only proper solution? "10 mph max speed over all turnouts."
That would, of course, be a special movement, with "special" pricing to match. Guarantee you won't like the price.

She was rebuilt to US 4' 8 1/2" gauge. The drivers and cylinders remained Russian gauge and extra-wide driver tires put the flanges at US gauge.

On the move, she was placarded "no self-guarding frogs." The engine would frequently go Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, each time coming back down on the rails.

Nobody reads placards or waybills.

Seems to imply ex-NYC rather than ex-NKP, and also another stop in a huge yard. Looking back, I wonder why BNSF didn't just turn it over to NS in KC for a trip on the old Wabash to Ft. Wayne.

Edit. A note at around midnight Thursday night: "NS train W4G is running late, and NS is parking the train at Laporte IN at the siding there. Crew is out of time. So the PA will be stuck there for the time being."

A thank you to BRC while 190 was in Chicago and surrounding areas and yards. Here is a quick video of NKP DL 190 passing Downer’s Grove Main Street. More to come.

Was this before "Occupied Camp Car" signs and derails were invented and required?

As NKP/DL190 continues to move east of Cleveland, OH tonight, en route to Buffalo; take a look at this video from Clearing Yard, LA Porte and Elkhart.

Reported as through North East, Pa. (Lake Shore Railway Museum webcam) at 12:41 AM eastbound, so somewhere in NY State by now, it's safe to assume.
