Here is some recent news on the work being done on 2816 at Ogden Shops in Calgary. This is from the facebook site "The Empress: CPR 2816."

If the CP-KCS merger (or Canada Southern as I like to call it) goes through, I wonder if 2816 would be sent south to inaugurate it. I believe there is only one KCS steamer still surviving, and we all know what is happening with that poor soul.

Railway Age magazine gives us an update on the CP 2826 Empress steam locomotive and its tri-national tour next April:
https://bit.ly/3qDJCvn

One notable change (in this and one other CPKC statement that I've seen quoted today) is that Monterrey is now added to the list of places with events in which the public will be able to see the locomotive up close.

What are the regulations for steam locomotives in Canada and Mexico? I know here in the US, we have FRA Part 230. Do those countries have something similar?

I haven't been to Mexico since 2008, but their regs have always been based on ICC or FRA rules. I would be shocked if anybody could find fault with the 2816, or if anybody even tried.

Unless something has changed in the last few years they would come under... https://www.railcan.ca/wp-content/uploa ... M-3_EN.pdf
This is pretty much the same as FRA but does not require two gauge glasses. Of course they will have to put a third gauge glass on for Mexico, right Sammy? Just to be clear, that is a joke...

Just kinda scratching my head on this, but the distance between Kansas City and Shreveport is close to 530 miles.

There is nothing listed as being between these two terminals for a public stop.

Perhaps at the big yard in Heavener, OK which is still about 338 miles from K.C.?

Any ideas?

Here's the latest on the tri-national steam tour:

https://www.cpkcr.com/en/community/fina ... team-train

You notice there is nothing about any return trip listed yet. Not only that, but obviously they aren't going to run straight through. The running time for the old Aztec Eagle from Nuevo Laredo to Mexico City was about 26 hours.
