I was exploring an abandoned narrow gauge yard recently and discovered these two "tanks". The documents I have seen say that this was used for fuel storage, however, these vessels are clearly too complex to be "just tanks" and surely must have been repurposed from something, somewhere.

Can anyone recognize what these might have been?

That is a Lancashire boiler. Interesting to see one outside of Great Britain.

Some photos are on Google

Thanks!

I'm trying to add photos of this second vessel, but I keep getting the message

"Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

What's that all about?

At any rate, I also have photos here:

As you'll see, it has some baffles inside. I used a tree limb as a dipstick to try and figure out how deep it is. The water line is where the stub of a branch is.

From the looks of the interior shot... I'd say they were used as cisterns. No trace of petroleum residue.

But I could definitely smell something along the lines of diesel fuel in there.

I don't know, but I just got the same message. I went back and deleted some old images, but it didn't make any difference.

Scroll through the photos of the Steamboat Arabia Museum and you will see the 3 Lancashire Boilers. https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJ ... VDMWZMX2dH

Here's the other vessel I found. As you can see, it has some internal baffle structure. I used a tree limb to see how deep it runs, and you can see the water line (where the stub of a branch is).

Any thoughts on what this second vessel might be?

To quote Tommy Lee Jones, "Absolutely no idea whatsoever."
