It appears that I accidentally left out a very famous locomotive off of this list.

They hope to have the boiler and cab back on the running gear in the spring.

02/01/2023: East Broad Top 2-8-2 #16 (BLW c/n45362, 1916) has made her first moves under steam since March 29, 1956.

Well, it appears that I completely overlooked 1 steam locomotive being restored to operation.

- Buffalo Creek & Gauley 4 class 2-8-0 #4 is being restored at Cass, WV. It'll be nice to see a rod locomotive operating at Cass (especially since the tracks from Cass to Durbin have finally been restored). Good luck, everyone. https://www.steamthe4.com/?flow=507014

So, congratulations to E.B.T. for #16's first successful run since 1956.

Also, I found 1 more steam locomotive undergoing a rebuild.

- Denver & Rio Grande Western K-27 class 2-8-2 #464 is getting rebuilt at the Huckleberry Railroad. Hopefully, it won't be too long before she is up and running again alongside U.S. Army 4-6-0 #152.

I also wanted to see if anyone has any new information about a certain locomotive. Is California Western 2-8-2 #45 still undergoing a rebuild?

Another one that apparently has slipped under the radar is former Rio Grande Southern #41, aka Knotts Berry Farm is being rebuilt at the D&S Shops.....

Well, not exactly.

As those who follow the news are aware, there has long been an overall shortage of skilled tradesmen and shop capacity, often leading to delays. Those overhauling steam locomotives are not immune. The boiler is fine (we are not undergoing the 1472 day inspection this year), but we started early in 2022 on a major overhaul of the running gear - pretty much everything between the boiler and the rails.

So, with the above in mind PM #1225 may be reassembled by our upcoming “Arsenal of Freedom” event (June 23-24), but likely not fired up. We do expect it to be back running well before our annual "North Pole Express" trips.

Not to mention that we have also started the rebuild work on C&NW #175. More details on all of this can be found on our website michigansteamtrain.com

Steam will live on!

The oldest Willamette remaining, 1923 Anaconda Company #7 nee Western Lumber #3 is undergoing work at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. Bearings and appliances are being gone through with hope for steam on or near it's 100 birthday. The Historical Museum has a progress link on it's page for those who are interested.

I apologize that I didn't really update this thread throughout 2023. I had a lot of personal things going on, as well as quite a few life changes. I will try to upkeep this list in 2024 better than I did last year. We shall see.

LONG LIVE, STEAM!

70-3 Three truck Willamette Anaconda #7 (Western Lumber #3) is undergoing restoration to operation at The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. The operation is being lead by Larry Ingold. Many of the parts are off and being worked on, the engine proper is in good shape and so far there have been no major surprises.
