Would Joe have gone back to Marilyn? Much the same thing, methinks...

Welcome to the candidates' debate. Laugh about, shout about it, when you've got to choose. Every way way you look at it...

Not to digress too far but...At the time the lyric was made popular, Joltin' Joe was in his mid fifties and Marilyn had been dead for more than five years so Joe was not going back to center field or Marilyn any time soon. My recollection is that Paul Simon intended the lyric more as a commentary on the loss of or lack of heroes. Nothing in my lungs but fresh autumn air. So, at a time of change, a tip of the hat to Doug Bailey and his skill as a moderator because I believe him to be the best at the job in the 15 years or so I have been reading posts on this board. With all his good work on steamlocomotive.info and the large amount of time likely involved in that work, I have as little expectation of his return as did Paul Simon of Joe D.

Takes all the humor out of my reply when the forum software selects and pastes the wrong line by mistake.

The quote should have been this, the sentence above the one quoted mistakenly:

Quote:
"Where have you gone Doug Bailey? Preservation turns its lonely eyes to you."

I was just continuing on quoting a little more Simon & Garfunkel from the same song. Very little more. I would correct the original post but that would ruin the context.

I get that! Crying myself to sleep every night. "Where have you gone John Rimmasch..."

Lord, I apologize for that...
