I am on a quest for a source of #4 Eastern Pattern Steel Scoop Shovels.

Razorback Tools makes one, but no one seems to carry them and the outfits who carry other Razorback products are not interested in special orders.

There are #2 scoops out there, but I'm not interested in them. I want a #4.

At one time Graingers had all sizes - #2 though #12. All they list now is #2s.

Any suggstions?

Razor-Back.com - #4 Eastern Pattern Steel Scoop with Wood Handle and Steel D-Grip

That's what Earl is looking for -- but, unfortunately, the "where to buy - buy online" part of their website doesn't seem to work.

I bought mine at Walter A. Wood back over 40 years ago. I found most stock D handles too short. It had a long straight handle which I cut off to my preferred length then attached a D handle by riveting over a carriage bolt. This outfit lists they have #4s with various handles but no photos.

I just learned something - the # of the scoop is determined by the size of steel sheet blank required for forming the blade/shank. If you think finding coal scoops is difficult, an Ash Pan Scoop must be the holy grail. You can see what one looks like on Pg 63 of the Ames catalog.

And these guys allegedly have 35 Razorbacks in stock...

I'm always on the lookout for coal scoops even smaller than No. 2. There is such a size, I have three of them, but nobody that I know still makes them.

That is quite an informative catalog.
